GIS Mokradła is a Polish national database focused on natural and transformed wetland habitats and elaborated in the Institute for Land Reclamation and Grasslands Farming at Falenty in 2004. It was commissioned by the Ministry of Environment with financial support of the National Fund of Environmental Protection and Water Management. Currently, the most crucial issue both in cognitive and application aspect of the database development is introduction of peatland stratigraphy to the system. Such extention would enable to study peatland evolution in the Polish landscape during Holocene period, particularly in the regional, morphological and/or geological spatial contexts as well as to significantly widen the group of stakeholders interested in GIS Mokrad3a. The data integration process itself creates several important technical and substantive challenges.
