The article discusses the conditions of extracting minerals based on Article 4 of the Act of June 9, 2011 Geological and Mining Law. This provision allows the extraction of minerals without the need to obtain a concession. It is therefore often used by people who need sand or gravel to meet their own needs. Unfortunately, despite the fact that the said act entered into force in 2012, the provision in question still raises many doubts as to its interpretation.

The specificity of the activities of the Lower Silesian Branch of the Polish Geological Institute - National Research Institute (PGI-NRI) is due to main factors: (1) mosaic-like geological structure of Lower Silesia, (2) the wealth of various mineral resources, (3) centuries-old mining traditions of the region. Initially, the researches included mainly geological cartography, subsequently expanding the scope of work to include regional (structural) geology and deposit geology. The contribution of applied geology, especially hydrogeology and environmental geology, has increased significantly in the previous decades. Three chapters present different periods of the Lower Silesian Branch of the PGI-NRI with its most important milestones for the Polish geology in the last seven decades. This division includes three periods: (1) years of development (1949-1989); (2) years of stagnation (1989-2013), and (3) years of disorganization (2014-2019). The period of intensification of geological researches carried out by the Lower Silesian Branch of the PGI-NRI lasted until the years of the so-called system transformation. During that period, the programs of deep boreholes were finished. In the 1990s, detailed cartographic works in Lower Silesia were completed. Acute shortage of new factographic material caused the necessity to analyze the archival material stored during previous decades at the Lower Silesian Branch. In 2014, it has practically decommissioned the regional branches, including the Lower Silesian Branch. Full centralization has led to the liquidation of both the branches’ independence and their previous focus on the implementation of tasks related to the specificity of a given region. In the forthcoming future, new challenges would depend on a proper organization chart of the PGI-NRI and the position of the regional branches in this scheme.

Niedoskonałości badania złóż z punktu widzenia potrzeb praktycznych były podstawą dla podjęcia systematycznych, kompleksowych prac badawczych w latach 80-tych ubiegłego wieku i pojawiła się potrzeba popularyzacji nowych metod i wymiany doświadczeń. W tym celu podjęto organizację seminariów pod hasłem „Metodyka rozpoznawania i dokumentowania złóż kopalin stałych” Wyróżniającym się przedmiotem zainteresowania są zagadnienia dotyczące opróbowania i oceny jakości kopaliny, popularyzacja doświadczeń i osiągnięć w komputeryzacji prac dokumentacyjnych, zastosowania metod geofizycznych, ochrony środowiska i planowania zagospodarowania przestrzennego oraz gospodarki złożem.

The need of improvement of exploration methods had motivated organization of special seminars on exploration methodology and its results reporting. The main topics of investigation and exchange of experience are: sampling and mineral quality evaluation, computerization of the mode of presentation geological data, utilization o0f geophysical methods, environment protection and land use problems related to exploration and minreral recomomy.

Calculation of reactant supply intensity for optimizing mineral extraction process by the in-situ leaching method

Extraction degree of layer strongly depends on the input reactant concentration and the arrangement of wells at the in-situ leaching (ISL) of minerals. Therefore, solution of optimization problem of mineral leaching process is reduced to solve two problems, one of which is a problem of optimal control the intensity of reactant supply, and another - optimal arrangement of wells. In this work problem of optimal control the intensity of reactant supply is considered when the wells arrangement already is known. Above mentioned ISL method is used for mining low concentrated deposits such as uranium, copper and gold. In present work the ISL uranium mining process has been studied numerically.

Metoda ISL jest używana do eksploatacji złóż o niskiej koncentracji pierwiastków takich jak uran, miedź i złoto. W niniejszej pracy przedstawiono obliczenia numeryczne stosowane w tej metodzie.

Using option pricing for valuation of mineral deposits

The article presents three different approaches to a valuation of a mineral deposit. The use of classical DCF methodology was tested against option pricing supplemented by scenario analysis. The option-pricing approach was applied in order to include the freedom of choice factor into consideration. The DCF methodology disregards the fact that acquiring party may alternate time scheme of investing in mining activities according to when the deposit will be really needed. The scenario analysis was employed in order to translate financial solutions into real action plans.

Artykuł prezentuje trzy różne podejścia do problemu wyceny złoża. Klasyczna postać modelu zdyskontowanych przepływów gotówki została skonfrontowana z podejściem opartym na metodologii wyceny opcji z wykorzystaniem elementów analizy scenariuszowej. Metodologia wyceny opcji została zastosowana w celu uwzględnienia w wycenie czynnika swobody wyboru. Metodologia zdyskontowanych przepływów gotówki nie bierze bowiem pod uwagę faktu, że nabywająca strona może kształtować swobodnie harmonogram zagospodarowania i eksploatacji złoża w zależności od zapotrzebowania rynku. Analiza scenariuszowa została wykorzystana w celu pokazania praktycznych konsekwencji dla podejmowanych działań zarządczych.
