Badane zmęczeniowo konkretne doczołowe złącza mostowe z nakładkami pękały w przekroju przechodzącym przez ostre krawędzie nakładek; zgodnie z literaturą w sposób trzystopniowy: zarodkowanie, rozwój szczeliny i końcowe dołamanie. Dotychczas nie ustalono ścisłego kryterium rozprzestrzeniania się tych pęknięć, prowadząc badania jedynie na poziomie mikrostruktury. Autorzy artykułu przedstawili analizę naprężeń metodą elementów skończonych dla tych złączy. Uzyskano zaskakujące wyniki, godne dyskusji.

The fatigue-tested butt joints with cover plates kept breaking in the areas located by the sharp edges of the cover plates; as the literature describes it, in a three-step way: crack initiation, growth and final fracture. To date, no strict criterion for the crack propagation has been established as the research has been conducted only at the microstructure level. The authors of the article presented the FEM stress analysis for these joints. The results achieved came as a surprise and they merit further discussion.

It is of high importance in seismic retrofitting of lateral load-bearing systems to increase the connections performance. The crucial point in the steel frame retrofitting process is to create plastic hinges in these types of frames. The formation of plastic hinges in beams and near columns generates large strains on column flanges as well as welding metal and heated surroundings, which can lead to brittle failure. The connection should be designed in such a way as to allow plastic hinge formation at certain points of the beam. One such method suggested for retrofit connections is to reduce the beam section locally away from the connection zone. There are various patterns available to locally reduce the beam section, such as circular, elliptical, and symmetric/asymmetric. In recent years, different proposals have been presented to design these connections which vary from older instructions. For this study, radiused cuts in the flange and slotted holes in the web of connection beams were selected for retrofitting analysis. Cyclic behavior, energy damping levels, and ductility of these connections were studied and compared before and after the retrofit by using nonlinear dynamic analysis. The results showed that the symmetrical circular hole pattern in the beam flanges demonstrated reliable performance.

This paper presents an analysis of the fire resistance of a steel joint subject-ed to tension. The authors of this article used prescriptive rules and simple calculation models to present an impact of the value of the load on the fire resistance of the connection. Designers often evaluate the critical temperature and fire resistance time of steel elements. However, they neglect the evaluation of the above-mentioned values for steel connections. In this article a simple engineering method was used to calculate the fire resistance of the joint.

The results from the research on original idea of probabilistic approach to fatigue analysis of steel welded joints are gathered in this paper. Originality of the concept comes from the proposed definition of statistical paramaters in the Weibull distribution and application of the weakest link analysis. The exact values of such parameters were defined on the basis of experimental and simulation studies.

Przedstawiono opis i sposoby wyznaczania zmęczeniowego współczynnika działania karbu Kf. Dla spoiny czołowej "X" wykreślono charakterystyki przedstawiające przebiegi zmęczeniowego współczynnika działania karbu strukturalnego Kf na podstawie analizy odkształceń dla wybranych gatunków stali.

In the paper, stress concentrators occurring in welded joints have been described. Methods of fatigue life determination in welded joints have been presented. Moreover, the paper contains description and methods of determination of the notch effect coefficient Kf. The curves presenting histories of the fatigue coefficient of structural notch effect have been plotted for the double-Vee butt weld and some selected steels based on the strain analysis.
