The article assesses the yarn bulk integrity, yarn surface profile and specific density of yarns. It has been found that the yarn bulk integrity is mainly dependent on the spinning technique used directly affecting the length distribution of fibers in the yarn. In turn, the distribution of fibers in the yarn can have a significant impact on many properties of yarns and fabrics, such as life, dimensional stability of the fabric, the appearance of yarn, yarn strength and coverage of the fabric. This article also characterizes the surface profile of the yarn stating that it can be described by three basic parameters, namely the general appearance of the surface of the yarn, the integrity of the surface and the surface of inequality. The third important factor in characterizing the structural features of the yarn accepted for consideration was its density. The use of linear density to express thinness, tenderness of yarn allows a comfortable and practical characterization of this important feature. All spinning machines used to process the fibers into yarn are based on knowledge of the linear density of the fiber assembly.
