Artykuł dotyczy wyznaczania strat tarcia o powietrze w wysokoobrotowym bezszczotkowym silniku prądu stałego (PM BLDC) z wirnikiem zewnętrznym. W silniku o takiej konstrukcji, straty tarcia o powietrze są znacznie większe niż w silniku pracującym w typowym zakresie prędkości obrotowej. W artykule zaproponowano własną metodę wyznaczania strat tarcia o powietrze dla silników z wirnikiem zewnętrznym. Rozważania teoretyczne poparto badaniami laboratoryjnymi na prototypowym wysokoobrotowym silniku PM BLDC z wirnikiem zewnętrznym.

The article concerns the determination of air friction losses in a high speed brushless DC motor (PM BLDC) with an external rotor. In a motor of such a design, air friction losses are much higher than in a motor operating in a typical speed range. The authors in the paper propose their own method of determining air friction losses for motors with an external rotor. Theoretical considerations have been supported by laboratory tests on a prototype of high-speed PM BLDC motor with an external rotor.

The paper describes motors used in high-speed electrical drives. Additionally, basic facts describing the PM BLDC motor have been given, focusing in particular on its design and construction as well as on its performance assessment. The paper also presents a comparative analysis of induction motors and permanent magnet motors. Moreover, various possibilities of application and innovative uses of the PM BLDC motor have been explored, like the use of the motor in a reverse scenario as a kinetic energy storage bank.

W publikacji zaprezentowano silniki stosowane w wysokoobrotowym napędzie elektrycznym.
Different distribution of power losses in high-speed permanent brushless DC motor and the way to reduce the losses were described in the paper. Conducted analyses of the distribution of power losses, based on results of laboratory tests with prototype high-speed permanent brushless DC motor designed in the department of Power Electronics, Electrical Drives and Robotics (KENER) The Silesian's University of Technology, revealed that the mechanical losses in such a motor could be greater than the electrical power losses. Using the results, authors presented recommendations for changes in the motor design leading to reduction of mechanical power losses and increase in motor efficiency.
