In the world market, success is achieved by the countries that have better human capital and allocate sufficient resources for its reproduction. One of the results of the growing enrollment of many universities has been the need for additional qualified teaching staff and advanced training, which has led to the need to retrain existing teachers for staffing the growing number of higher education institutions. The first of the major success factors in this endeavor is to ensure that teachers are motivated to earn a relatively adequate salary. In recent years, a number of RA universities have successfully applied the method of salary calculation, which is based on the principle that a teacher (professor, associate professor, assistant, etc.) receives a salary depending on his category and workload (number of hours per academic year). Another important component of the assessment is the real involvement of the teacher in scientific activities and, based on this, a method for calculating the salary of a teacher is proposed, taking into account, among other things, his scientific activity. In order to encourage the scientific activity of the teacher, an indicator of the effectiveness of his scientific activity is introduced, the measure of which is scientific work during the previous (three to five) years.

Paper describes the procedure for developing academic programs which are properly aligned to the requirements of the knowledge-based economy. The paper also addresses the continuous quality improvement (CQI) process with the CQI loop closing on the program level and the course level. This process is needed to make continuous adjustments to an academic program, so that the program is always aligned to the constantly-changing needs of the economy. Paper also discusses the system of mutual dependency between the academic program and external partnership like local industry, secondary schools, local government, local community, regional business incubator center, other educational institutions, alumni and industrial advisory council. The ongoing collaboration with external partners allows the program to prosper and grow.

The paper deals with professional competences, and within their structure, it specifically engages in those which shape the level of ethical competence of future university graduates. The authors point out the growing trend in job market requirements related to this type of qualities of universityeducated individuals. The main purpose of paper is to analyze the students’ perception of the importance of ethical erudition, ability to perceive morally, as well as make moral assumptions and adequate ethical decisions. It presents the results of a questionnaire research, the aim of which was to identify the readiness of students to attend and complete a university course of applied ethics, and their expectations of such type of education.

Niniejszy artykuł dotyczy kompetencji zawodowych, szczególnie tych, które kształtują poziom etyczny przyszłych absolwentów. Zwrócono uwagę na rosnącą tendencję wymagań rynku pracy odnoszących się do absolwentów uczelni. Zbadano zdolność postrzegania sensu i znaczenia etycznego erudycji, rozumowania moralnego i etycznego podejmowania decyzji przez samych studentów. Przedstawiono wyniki badania ankietowego, którego celem było określenie wstępnej gotowości uczniów do wzięcia udziału i ukończenia uniwersyteckiego kursu etyki stosowanej.
