This paper presents the influence of furniture joint material and size of fastener on load-carrying capacity of single shear steel-to-timber joints. As for the fasteners, wood screws with dimensions  3x25mm and  6x40mm were used. These dimensions are the most widely used in furniture construction. The test samples were made from spruce and beech timber and were loaded with lateral force applied parallel and perpendicular to the wood fibres. We evaluated the impact of the direction of wood fibres in the wood species and size of the fasteners means for load carrying capacity, its deformation (displacement) and joint stiffness
