The gulf wedge clam, common rangia Rangia cuneata, with a native origin in the Gulf of Mexico has spread to north European brackish and freshwaters. This semitropical species is able to survive in conditions of low winter temperatures in boreal environment of the Baltic Sea. Its expansion within lagoons and sheltered bays in the southern and eastern parts of the Baltic Sea appears to be with natural spread and its discontinuous distribution is likely to have been with shipping, either within ballast water or as settled stages transported with dredged material. In this account, we report on the occurrence of R. cuneata in Lithuanian waters. We compare habitats of the common rangia in the Curonian Lagoon and in the exposed coastal waters of the Baltic Sea. We notice high mortality of the species in the Lithuanian waters in comparison to the neighboring Vistula Lagoon. Based on finding of small specimens of R. cuneata attached to the spiked watermilfoil Myriophyllum spicatum, we indicate a risk of local spread with movements of fishing equipment and snagged plants on anchors or boat trailers removed from the water. We discuss the possibility of further spread of the common rangia to similar environments in the Baltic Sea and elsewhere in Europe.

Ice loadings on HV overhead line conductors is the main reason influencing safety and reliability of the lines. This problem is connected with great economical loses so many research centres and transmission and distribution lines operators conduct wide investigations and analysis for developing adequate standards, recommendations and maintenance procedures.

The aim of the measurements was to assess the usefulness of the GPR technique in winter in engineering projects, particularly in determining the location of underground infrastructure, such as sanitary and gas installations as well as power and telecommunication cables. The article presents and discusses the results of the measurements performed in a developed area. The use of GPR was assessed based on the identification of installation system elements as well as the comparison between their actual position and their location according to a geodesic plan. GPR should be considered as a valuable tool during the repair of sanitary, gas or other types of networks as it allows to precisely determine the location of a given network in the subsurface layer, and thus prevent possible failures.

W artykule omówiono standardy zimowego utrzymania dróg (ZUD) w Polsce. Przeanalizowano wpływ zimowego utrzymania dróg na strukturę produktów korozji powstających na skutek oddziaływania NaCl na stal konstrukcyjną S355. Badania przeprowadzono na trzech obiektach mostowych o stalowej konstrukcji nośnej zlokalizowanych w województwie śląskim, zaklasyfikowanych do I, II i III standardu ZUD. Próbki badawcze rozmieszczono na dźwigarach wybranych obiektów i pozostawiono na rok, a następnie poddano je badaniom składu chemicznego i topografii powierzchni przy użyciu mikroskopu skaningowego – SEM.

In the article discusses the standards of the winter maintenance of roads (WMR) in Poland. The influence of WMR, on the structure of the corrosion products, which are due to effects NaCl on structural steel S355. The research was conducted on three bridges of steel structure located in Silesia Province. Objects are classified into I, II and III standard WMR. Samples are placed on the girders of selected objects for one year. After one year, the samples were tested chemical composition and topography of the surface. The research was conducted using a scanning electron microscope (SEM).

Jednostki odpowiedzialne za utrzymanie dróg w Polsce to: Generalna Dyrekcja Dróg Krajowych i Autostrad (GDDKiA) – zarządzająca drogami krajowym, Zarząd Dróg Wojewódzkich – wojewódzkimi, Zarząd Powiatu – powiatowymi, gminnymi - prezydent miasta, wójt, burmistrz. W artykule przedstawiono problematykę utrzymania dróg w okresie zimowym, na przykładzie wybranej gminy w województwie lubelskim. Zaprezentowano wybrane aspekty utrzymania dróg w zakresie technicznym i prawnym w Polsce.

Appropriate road maintenance guarantees a safe and comfortable traffic on the transport network. Entities in charge of road maintenance in Poland are: the General Directorate of National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) - managing national roads, the Board of Regional Roads - provincial roads, District Board - county roads, municipal roads - the mayor, the voyt, the commune administrator. The article presents the problem of road maintenance during winter time, on the example of selected municipality in the province of Lublin. Selected aspects of road maintenance in the technical and legal field in Poland were presented.

Jednym z często stosowanych zabiegów pielęgnacji betonu w warunkach zimowych jest metoda obróbki cieplnej za pomocą elektronagrzewu. Zagadnienie to jest bardzo złożone i zależy od rodzaju konstrukcji, składu mieszanki betonowej oraz zewnętrznych warunków atmosferycznych. W związku z tym cały proces obróbki termicznej powinien być odpowiednio zaprojektowany i przebiegać pod kontrolą uprawnionych do tego osób. W artykule przedstawiono zasady i procedury wykonywania elektronagrzewu, stosowane obecnie na budowach, zwracając szczególną uwagę na czynniki, zapewniające prawidłową pielęgnację betonu tą metodą.

One of the commonly used treatments for concrete in winter conditions is a method of electrofusion heating. This problem is very complex and depend on the type of the construction and composition of concrete mix and external atmospheric conditions. Accordingly, the process of heat treatment should be appropriately designed and run under the control of the persons entitled to. The paper presents the principles and procedures for the exercise electrofusion concrete heating, currently used on construction sites, paying particular attention to factors that ensure proper care of the concrete by this method.

The paper presents the 'anti-freezing' action of admixtures in the light of their influence on lowering the freezing point of fresh concrete. There have been presented the results of freezing point tests for selected admixtures to concrete mix in commercial concentrations, reduced to the concentrations applicable in dosing to a regular concrete mix, as well as the results of tests of the concrete mix with the use of the said admixtures. The results of the tests should be helpful in understanding which admixtures better support the protection of concrete that sets in low temperature conditions, and in particular - why the application of admixtures does not enable the abandoning of other protective activities at the early stage of concrete setting in minus temperatures.

W warunkach klimatycznych Polski, co rok wraz z nadejściem zimy powraca problem prowadzenia robót betonowych i murowych w warunkach obniżonych temperatur. Uważa się, że właściwa pielęgnacja lub stosowanie domieszek przeciwmrozowych pozwalają na prowadzenie robót budowlanych nieprzerwanie w okresie zimowym. Powszechnie wiadomo, że temperatura dojrzewania kompozytów cementowych powinna mieścić się w granicach 15-20°C. Przy temperaturach niższych następuje spowolnienie procesu wiązania cementu. Alternatywą dla termicznych zabiegów pielęgnacyjnych może być stosowanie domieszek przeciwmrozowych, które obniżają temperaturę krzepnięcia wody poniżej 0°C, przyspieszają wiązanie cementu i podnoszą temperaturę hydratacji.

In Polish climatic conditions, the approach of every winter sees a return of problems related to carrying out concrete and bricklaying works in reduced temperatures. It is considered that proper precautions or the use of antifreeze additives make it possible to continue construction works uninterrupted in winter. It is generally known that the curing temperature of cement composites should lie within the range 15-20°C. At lower temperatures the process of setting of the cement is slowed down. An alternative to thermal maintenance procedures may be the use of antifreeze additives, which reduce the freezing point of water to below 0°C, accelerate the setting of the cement, and increase the temperature of hydration.

Winter in Poland lasts 60 - 70 days on Silesian Plain, and 110 - 120 days in Suwalskie Lake District. Winter’s basic destructive factor is low temperatures, temperatures below 0°C, appearing from December to March. All the factors, characteristic for winter, exert a significant influence on the possibilities to carry out combat operations. The troops must always take into consideration various winter surprises and whims - from very low temperatures and big snowfall to cloudiness and thaws. Frost, snow and low temperature influence the organisation and course of actions, however, they do not decide on the combat results. Noticing and taking into account the specific character of actions in definite conditions must be the commander’s and staff officer’s skill, the ability to evaluate the terrain and weather conditions in a correct way and also their influence on the possibility to accomplish a task. The article presents basic conditions of carrying out combat actions in these conditions and principles to conduct offensive and defence operations. The allies’ viewpoints have been taken into account in these considerations, when combat in these conditions is described.
