In order to connect chemical enterprise Sasol Germany in Brunsbiittel and DOW Deutschland in Stade, it was necessary to build a pipeline DN 6'' and total length 55 km. The pipeline route had to go under the Elbe river between the town of St. Marghareten in the north and the town of Krummendeich in the south. HDD technology was chosen as the best applicable method for this project. The planning stage and the pipeline construction was trusted to Friedrich Vorwerk Rohrleitungsbau company. The drilling works and laying the pipeline in the bore were performed by LMR Drilling. The course of these works as well as their record outcome in the bore length is described in this paper.
