Purpose: The aim of the work was to present the automation of the mass measurement process as a factor that can significantly affect the quality and speed of analyzes in pharmaceutical industry. Design/methodology/approach: In this study, two methods were presented for testing the mass uniformity of tablets whose weight ranged from 13 mg to 2580 mg. The first method involved determining the weight of 20 randomly selected tablets of pharmaceutical preparations by statically measuring the weight of these tablets. In the second method, an automatic tablet feeder type PA-04/H was used, in which, as a result of vibration, successive tablets were automatically moved via a special chute onto the weighing pan. Findings: No significant differences were found in the weight measurements performed by the manual and automatic methods. The largest differences were noted at the 0.5% level. All tablets tested met the United States Pharmacopeia requirements for their mass uniformity. For orally disintegrating tablets, the largest percentage deviations in weight from the mean value were -4.47% for tablet F6, - 4.26%, for tablet F1 and 3.31% for tablet F2. The differences in accuracy and precision between the automatic and manual methods were insignificant. Research limitations/implications: Mass measurement by the manual method is one of the most frequently performed measurements in the laboratory. The final result from this measurement method may be subject to error caused, for example, by human error, i.e. reading, writing or calculation error. For this reason, process automation is increasingly being used, which eliminates the possibility of error to a large extent. Practical implications: The automation of weight measurement reduces the effort required for product inspection. Thus, it can be an important factor in the process of optimization and product quality management. Originality/value: The description of the research method and its results can be a valuable guideline for people who deal with product quality control in the pharmaceutical industry. It has been shown that automation to be effective does not have to be complicated but well designed.

EN
In many industrial applications is taken to consider change of payload potential energy while lifting it. It allows obtained directly benefits. For example, the cost of material loaded on a dump truck in a composition of coal is generally priced by its weight. In this case, the truck has to pass a stationary scale twice to identify its payload, before and after loading. Measuring weight of the material instantly while loading the truck, increases the efficiency of the process and makes a stationary scale unnecessary. In addition, it is possible to prevent overloading of means of transport, which use public roads, and can be weighed by the road service. The typical solutions of the static and dynamic weighing system from market were compared. The theoretical model is presented basing on geometrical and mass parameters of excavator CAT 301.5. The weighing system used in off-road machines is usually based on the measurement of the working fluid pressure in the piston chambers of the hydraulic cylinders, which lift the machine work equipment together with a payload. In this article is shown a solution with load pin, which allows the determination of the load mass independently of the several factors affecting the classic weighing system. The possibility of payload mass measuring on the excavator was estimated during tests on prepared research stand. There were obtained a good agreement of experimental research results with the mathematical model.

EN
Purpose: The results of measurements shows that the chest size is not enough accurate to establish the body mass of living animals in all development stages, therefore additional measuring of the trunk length was used to increase reliability of the estimate. Design/methodology/approach: During the test 30 fattened animals were considered and were weighed by electronic weighing device EC 2000. The trunk length (d) and the chest size (o) were measured simultaneously. The body mass (T) was calculated according to the equation: T = o x d / 50. By the statistical package SPSS 12.01. for Windows the basic statistics for the studied properties was calculated. By the t-test the calculated and the actually weighed body masses of animals were compared. Findings: On the young fattened cattle it was established that with 240 - 290 kg body mass, when the body form is most rectangular, the accuracy of calculation on the basis of measured body parts, is the greatest. The percentage difference between weighed and calculated body mass is only 0.06%, which is very accurate. Research limitations/implications: For wide applicability of measurement results on the living animals in all stages of growth it would be necessary in the equation for the calculation to include also the trunk size in the middle of the body and the size in the rear part. Practical implications: On small farms where the cost of purchase of the digital weighing device would be too great a burden, thus, measuring of the chest size at 3 cm behind the elbow joint, in the middle of the trunk (behind the last rib), and measuring of the size in the rear part of the body and the trunk length from the middle of the withers to the tail root are more appropriate. Originality/value: The animals which phenotypically feature cylindrical shape in the period of growth can be measured most simply in the front middle and rear part of the body and, then, their body mass can be determined very accurately on the basis of the data obtained.

Weighing of various types of commercial vehicles have been tested on the post of initial weighing of the vehicles in motion on road No 11 in Byczyna. Results of the tests showed relation between type of the vehicle and its weight. Therefore, it is possible to define precisely traffic aggressiveness on the base of this type weighing.

Paper presented an exemplary statistical analysis of weighing and packaging proc-ess of the product. The process was evaluated in accordance with the legal regula-tions included in the act on packaged goods of September 6th, 2001. Results of such analysis were compared with an evaluation realized by using the X/R control charts.
