Paper presents features of "FireRisk" - a research web-based system in the field of fire safety. A new approach in the study of fire safety problems is described, as well as two modules are presented: "FireRisk PR" (which allows to project the areas of potential and individual fire risk) and "FireRisk CBR" (case-based approach in the system of decision making).

We investigated the effectiveness of a Web-based healthcare system that allows participants to record measurements of blood pressure, body weight, and the number of steps walked per day. After receiving a medical examination, participants were registered on the Web-based system and encouraged to record data. A total of 223 participants initiated contact with the system; however, only 27 monitored their blood pressure on more than 60 days during the 3-month period. Furthermore, only 46 participants monitored their body weight, and 79 monitored the number of steps taken per day. Although specific health checkups are important to prevent diseases, we conclude that existing health checkup monitoring is not sufficient, and we should develop a new Web-based health checkup and monitoring system that is more familiar to the participants.

The article describes the development and new tools available in PATONbase, the system developed in PATON at the Technical University Ilmenau. The Web-based system provides simple search and analysis tools that rationalize pre-retrieval and pre-analysis of the patent information. The system is seen as a free-of-charge supplementary tool for full-text delivery system PATONline.

Artykuł opisuje implementację i sposób wykorzystania nowych narzędzi w systemie PATONbase, rozwijanym w Centrum Informacji Patentowej PATON na Universytecie Technicznym w Ilmenau. Dostępny przez Internet system dostarcza użytkownikowi bezpłatne narzędzia do wyszukiwania dokumentów patentowych przy użyciu kryteriów bibliograficznych i następującej po tym prostej analizy wyników wyszukiwania. Wstępna ocena dokumentów pozwala zracjonalizować pobieranie pełnych tekstów z komercyjnego systemu PATONline.
