In the modern market economy, the company is still looking for the most effective ways of management. The development of enterprises depends mainly on people skills and work organization. One aspect of the objectives is to effectively manage working time. The article discussed were the basic issues related to the topic of time management. The aim of the study was to determine the causes of undeveloped time in the domestic steel industry, together with examples of preventive measures. Using statistical data shows the structure of the causes of the wasted time in the steel industry in the years 2000-2015. Basic data: nominal time in steel industry was 114 849.20 thousand. Hours in 2000 and now is 44 387 thousand hours, time worked was 92 603 thousand. Hours in 2000, now is 36 000 thousand. Hours, wasted time was 22 246.2 thousand. Hours, now is 3 967.2 thousand hours. The structure of the working time not worked comprises: - 60% of the leaves, - 30% of sickness absences, - 10% break fee. Companies use the programs to decline wasted time in their companies. On the basis of case studies and sector analysis was confirmed the improvement in working time management in manufacturing companies in the long term.
