The study was conducted to assess the groundwater potential at Haji Rehmatullah Palari village aquifer, Union Council Sari of Kalu Khuhar along M-9 Motorway near Nooriabad, Sindh, Pakistan, through vertical electrical sounding (VES) by using Schlumberger electrode array method with 02–210 m. The collected data of 12 VES were interpreted by using IPI2win software. Monsoon rainfall period is very short, which starts from July to September (every year in Pakistan). Average rainfall is 150 mm with variation of 25 mm, in some year zero rainfall. During summer season, the evaporation and transpiration rate are about 70%, while the infiltration rate is 15%. Kalu Nadi (hill torrent) is the only source of recharge of this aquifer that depends on the rainfall. Lithological logs interpreted that mostly aquifers are present in sandstone lithology of Nari Formation which hold these freshwater aquifers having minimum 50 m thickness and have great potential for freshwater exploitation. Lithological logs interpreted that mostly aquifers persist in sandstone lithology of Nari Formation which hold the freshwater. Totally, five tube wells were installed at this aquifer and discharging the freshwater of about 98.55 million gallons per year and rapidly depleting the aquifers. Water business is also observed at this aquifer which was breaking influenced on the aquifer without considering the agricultural development to protect the environment. The aquifer is under pressure to drawdown and may suffer with its quantity and quality, if this trend continues.

W artykule omówiono wyniki prac laboratoryjnych, których celem było określenie wpływu wybranych parametrów procesu tłoczenia ditlenku węgla do modelu porowatej warstwy wodonośnej na skalę i dynamikę jego wypływu z tejże warstwy. Określono objętość warstwy, przez którą wypływał ditlenek węgla oraz stopień nasycenia (saturacji) warstwy wodonośnej gazem. Punktowe zatłaczanie ditlenku węgla do warstwy wodonośnej jest jednym z pierwszych etapów wykonywania poziomych barier izolacyjnych, zgodnie z założeniami Technologii Horyzontalnych Barier Krzemianowych (THBK). Celem technologii THBK jest likwidacja pionowego przepływu płynów w ośrodku geologicznym, co daje szerokie pole zastosowań w ochronie wód podziemnych i górnictwie. W pracy wykonano symulację procesu oraz zoptymalizowano parametry zatłaczania cieczy zabiegowej. Podjęto także próbę przeniesienia uzyskanych w laboratorium wyników do warunków płytkich warstw wodonośnych

The article discusses the results of laboratory work, the objective of which was to determine the relevant parameters of technological process of aquifer saturation by carbon dioxide during forming horizontal insulating barriers, in accordance with the Technology of forming Horizontal Silicate Barriers (THBK). The main objective of the THBK technology is vertical control of fluid flow in porous media, what gives a wide field of applications in groundwater protection and mining. In this work simulation of saturation process and optimization of injection parameters were performed. Moreover, an attempt to transfer obtained laboratory results to shallow aquifers conditions was conducted.

The Miechów Trough and the central part of the Carpathian Foredeep in southern Poland have a highly complex geological structure and numerous fault zones. These features play a significant role in hydrogeological conditions of the area. In this area drinking water, medicinal groundwater or thermal groundwater occur, so recognition of their circulations is basic for reasonable groundwater management. In this note, a hydrogeological conceptual model, created for the purpose of regional scale mathematical modelling, is presented. This conceptual model illustrates the geology of the hydrogeological system modelled, as well as hydrogeological conditions and characteristics of groundwater circulation, as determined by tectonics. Typical of the research area is the wide diversity of geological and hydrogeological conditions. The Busko-Zdrój area, a region with a long history of exploitation of medicinal groundwater, presents the best example.

The article describes the subject of underground hydrogen storage in the context of energy storage using hydrogen as a carrier, and shows its role in the Polish energy policy. The review of the most recent papers was performed to provide the information about hydrogen properties and options for underground hydrogen storage (salt caverns, depleted hydrocarbons fields, deep aquifers) in Poland. Analysis of the literature indicates small practical experiences in the underground hydrogen storage. The behaviour of underground-stored hydrogen is more complex than expected. Previous results indicate that this option may in future become the preferred solution for storing excess electricity related to the irregular supply from renewable sources. Geological formations can provide the possibility of storing energy on a medium- and long-term time scale. Knowledge of the underground storage of carbon dioxide and other gases will be useful for searching ofsites for underground storage of this gas. Due to the planned increasing share of renewable energy in electricity production in Poland, the issue of underground hydrogen storage will become increasingly relevant.

The coal mine waste dumps located in the southern provinces of Poland pollute groundwater with metals. As a result of batch experiments presented in the paper, it can be said that it is possible to remove chromium and copper from the groundwater (which is affected by acid mine drainage, thus characterized by low pH) with the use of zero-valent iron in permeable reactive barrier technology. The contaminants are removed from the aquifer by the flow of groundwater through a reactive barrier filled with a special reactive material. Rapid metal removal likely occurred due to the reduction and the precipitation/co-precipitation and/or due to the adsorption onto the iron metal surface or/and onto the iron corrosion products. In accordance with the research it has also been found that in more alkaline environment, the oxidation of Fe(0) proceeds slower. A rapid decrease of the redox potential as well as the increases of pH have also been observed in the batch tests when the dose of Fe(0) in solutions increased.

W publikacji przedstawiono procedurę analizy i interpretacji wyników opróbowań warstw wodonośnych rurowymi próbnikami złoża, opracowaną w postaci schematu blokowego. Uwzględniono w nim wyniki testu przypływu wody złożowej do otworu wiertniczego oraz wyniki testu odbudowy ciśnienia dennego. Na podstawie bieżącej analizy warunków testowania możliwe jest ustalenie kolejnych etapów decyzji o przeznaczeniu warstwy wodonośnej badanej w procesie wiercenia otworu poszukiwawczego.

The paper deals with the problem of taking decisions concerning the designation of an aquifer recognised with DST. A suitable decision procedure has been elaborated in the form of a block diagram. The scheme takes into account the problem of obtaining a representative volume of formation water as well as the issue of assessing reservoir conditions mainly based on the interpretation of data coming the aquifer testing.
