We present an application of the theory the fracture-band model to the study of volcanicquake series recorded in 1977 at Usu, Hokkaido, Japan. Using as input data the seismic moments, stress drops and seismic radiated energies, we are able to calculate for each event in series the values of seismic efficiency, the total released energy, the top shear stress and crack opening stress (pressure) before event, the source width, and the damage factor. We compare the ranges of magnitude of these quantities with those for tectonic events, mine tremors and icequakes.
