The attractiveness of real-time multimedia communication as part of an e-learningplatform largely depends on the quality of the telecommunications infrastructure and on theservices that support the exchange of audiovisual data. The research subject of this workis communication between stationary and mobile devices using distributed services such asWeb Real-Time Communication (WebRTC) running in HTML5 compliant web browsers. Thetest connections were carried out in a peer-to-peer architecture over a local wireless WiFinetwork and a mobile network supporting the Long Term Evolution (LTE) standard fordata interchange. Several audiovisual sessions between two clients were analyzed for differentconnection scenarios. Parameters responsible for the transmission quality, such as delay, jitter,packet loss, or the speed of sending and receiving video frames were measured for each scenario.Open audiovisual communication system performance experiments were conducted under realoperating conditions. The obtained results indicated potential applications in the developmentof e-learning websites.

Vehicles need to be re-advancing by video transmission among vehicles for safety and cooperative deriving. The video images captured from camera could help the driver to monitor the surroundings as well as transmit the compressed images over vehicular communication network. Video over wireless communication has a lot of potential applications in intelligent transportation systems (ITS).Video streaming utilizes high bandwidth data links to transmit information. The high-bandwidth systems required larger equipment, better line-of-sight, and more complex mechanism for reliable transmit ion over the network. The intended platform for the system described in this study, is to develop a software defined algorithm for automatic video compression and transmission. The proposed algorithm is able to robustly find the left and right boundary of the lane using Hough Transform method and transmit over the network. Therefore the limitations of high-bandwidth equipment become more significant in a tactical scenario. The results show that the proposed method works well on marked roads and transmission in various lighting conditions.

W artykule przedstawiono algorytm kompresji i transmisji obrazów do zastosowania w komunikacji bezprzewodowej w sieci samochodowej. Przy pomocy transformacji Hough algorytm określa lewą i prawą granicę pasa i przesyła dane do sieci. Przeprowadzono badania weryfikujące działanie algorytmu, które wykazały jego skuteczność na oznaczonych drogach przy różnych warunkach oświetlenia.

Zaprezentowano projekt PROTEUS i udział w nim pracowników Instytutu Radioelektroniki PW, odpowiedzialnych za realizację systemu łączności dla zintegrowanego, mobilnego systemu wspierającego działania antyterrorystyczne i antykryzysowe. Przedstawiono ogólną architekturę systemu, jego elementy oraz główne podsystemy łączności wyodrębnione w celu zapewnienia odpowiednich funkcjonalności i spełnienia wymagań dla systemu.

The aim of the article is to present the PROTEUS Project and the main activities of the WUTs Institute of Radioelectronics team, who are responsible for the Communications systems for the integrated, mobile system for counterterrorism and rescue operations. In the article general architecture of the system is introduced and main system elements are presented. There is also general description of the communication systems selected for ensuring proper functionalities and conforming system requirements.

In the paper a proposal of practical utilisation of motion detection algorithvi supported by the Monte Carlo method for video transmission using low bandwidth networks is presented. Proposed approach is especially useful for low performance embedded systems with the limited amount of memory. The idea of the Monti Carlo based transmission system with its example implementation using FTP and HTTP protocols is discussed. Our algorithm has much less computational requirements and can be easily implemented in many low performance hardware systems.
