Evaluation of light commercial vehicles operation process in a transport company using the regression modelling method

This paper presents an analysis of the results of daily observations from the execution of transport orders by three types of vehicles over a period of 2 years. The purpose of the research was to evaluate the operation process and determine the influence of important technical and operational variables on the economic efficiency of the operation process. A set of 7 quantitative variables, previously not considered in the evaluation of the commercial vehicle operation process, was subjected to statistical data analysis. An indicator analysis and evaluation of the intensity of use of the following types of vehicles was conducted: Renault Master, Fiat Ducato and Citroen Jumper. Based on the results of the research, the vehicle with the highest efficiency was determined and possible assumptions of the strategy applied in the company were indicated. The analysis and evaluation of vehicle efficiency gave rise to the identification of independent variables determining the company's income. Using the indicator method and the multivariate regression model, transport companies can evaluate the efficiency of transport tasks undertaken.

Transport pertains to all functional areas of the State’s activities on every administrative level. Road transport is a very important branch of global economy and constitutes a part of the logistics network. It pertains to the transportation of cargo, items, and people. Cooperation between the branches of civilian transportation and military logistics must be the focus of continuous improvement efforts. Enhancements in this respect can serve to avoid possible failures and disruptions. The quality and availability of infrastructure plays a significant role, not only with respect to civilian, but also military assets. The condition of the vehicle is important for the safety of road transport. The provision of transport services in a military unit should mainly rely on military-civilian cooperation and effective communications. The condition of the means of transportation has been indicated as a factor influencing transport safety. Employing new technology and solutions enables constant improvements to the diagnostic system, broadening the knowledge and enhancing the skills of the motor vehicle driver in terms of proficiency in operating and maintaining the vehicle used.

Road safety is an important social issue. Hence, changes in road traffic rules have a large influence on travel safety improvement. One of the major issues to be addressed is the speed limit of motor vehicles and radar speed measurements. Moreover, road traffic rules impose the obligation to wear safety belts during driving, carrying children in car safety seats and they put a ban on drink driving as well as driving under the influence of other intoxicating substances that have a negative influence on the driver’s physical condition and driving skills. This study analyses changes in traffic rules and provides assessment of the way they affect road traffic safety in Poland. The study presents an analysis of the issues connected with road vehicle operation and safety of the passengers including: wearing safety seat belts, use of children car safety seats, vehicle lighting, speed limit. Such issues as the proposed changes in breathalyzer use and implementation of safety systems to provide road users with safety have been addressed.

Operational vehicle quality measures are an important element used to evaluate the performance of transport services. In practice, there are many methods involved in the operational evaluation of vehicles. They are characterized in this article. Artificial Intelligence methods, especially artificial neural networks, can also be successfully used for this purpose, and especially when deciding on quality assessment processes for machines, including motor vehicles. The use of methods to support decision-making based on facts is extremely important for the credibility and objectivity of the evaluation. These methods can also be used in relation to the use of vehicles in the assessment of transport services. The article presents the method of using artificial neural networks for the operational evaluation of vehicles used in freight transport services. The basis for the verification of the method was an experimental research carried out at a company making dairy products, cooperating with transport companies, supplying products for the production process. The results obtained from the operation of vehicles from the studied companies have confirmed, at the probability level of 99%, high efficiency of the proposed method in evaluating transport services using operational vehicle quality measures.

Eksploatacyjne miary jakości pojazdów są istotnym elementem wykorzystywanym do oceny realizacji usług transportowych. W praktyce mamy do czynienia z wieloma metodami związanymi z eksploatacyjną oceną pojazdów. Scharakteryzowano je w artykule. Metody sztucznej inteligencji, a zwłaszcza sztuczne sieci neuronowe, również mogą być z powodzeniem wykorzystane do tego celu, a zwłaszcza przy podejmowaniu decyzji w procesach oceny jakości maszyn, w tym pojazdów samochodowych. Zastosowanie metod, które pozwalają wspomagać proces decyzyjny na podstawie faktów jest niezmiernie istotne z punktu widzenia wiarygodności i obiektywności oceny. Metody te mogą być również wykorzystane w odniesieniu do eksploatacji pojazdów w zastosowaniu do oceny usług transportowych. W artykule przedstawiono metodę wykorzystania sztucznych sieci neuronowych do eksploatacyjnej oceny pojazdów wykorzystywanych w usługach transportowych towarów. Podstawę weryfikacji metody stanowiły badania eksperymentalne przeprowadzone w przedsiębiorstwie produkującym produkty mleczarskie, współpracującym z firmami transportowymi, dostarczającymi wyroby do produkcji. Uzyskane wyniki potwierdziły z 99-procentowym prawdopodobieństwem wysoką skuteczność proponowanej metody w dokonywaniu oceny usług transportowych z wykorzystaniem eksploatacyjnych miar jakości pojazdów.

Ostatnimi czasy, ze względu na informacje na temat smogu, występującego głównie w dużych miastach, wszystkie grupy społeczne przyłączyły się do dyskusji. Planowane są ograniczenia w ruchu pojazdów samochodowych w centrach miast, wprowadzana jest bezpłatna komunikacja miejska, ale również zaczyna przywiązywać się coraz większą wagę do ekologicznego stylu jazdy. Ekologia dla przeciętnego użytkownika nie jest tak ważna, jak ekonomia. Pogodzenie tych dwóch spraw przyniosłoby obopólne korzyści – zarówno dla środowiska, jak i kierowców. W artykule przedstawiono możliwości pogodzenia ekologicznego i ekonomicznego korzystania z samochodu.

The ecology in transport is one of main challenges, both for car designers and users. Recently, because of the information about smog existing mainly in big cities, all social groups joined the discussion. Limitations of motor vehicles traffic in city centres are planned, free of charge urban transport is introduced, but also more and more attention is paid to an ecological style of driving. For an average user the ecological driving is not as important and economical one. Reconciliation of those two issues would bring mutual benefits, both for the environment and for drivers. The paper presents possibilities to reconcile ecological and economical use of cars.

W artykule zaprezentowano rozważania dotyczące wpływu podmiotu wykonującego usługę naprawczą na wysokość stawki roboczogodziny blacharsko-lakierniczej. Na potrzeby badań analizie poddano 5000 szkód komunikacyjnych, które zostały zlikwidowane w wariancie rozliczenia na postawie faktury za naprawę, na terenie jednego z województw Polski. Porównanie danych historycznych pozwoliło na określenie występujących różnic w wysokości stawek obowiązujących zarówno w warsztatach autoryzowanych jak i nieautoryzowanych. Celem artykułu jest udzielenie odpowiedzi na pytanie, jakie rozbieżności cenowe występują pomiędzy stawkami roboczogodziny blacharsko-lakierniczej w nieautoryzowanych i autoryzowanych stacjach napraw. Głównymi adresatami zaprezentowanych wyników badań są rzeczoznawcy samochodowi, towarzystwa ubezpieczeniowe i biegli sądowi w Polsce.

The article discusses the impact of the repairer performing on the service level of the sheet metal workmanship. For the purposes of the study, 5000 communication losses were eliminated, which were eliminated in the settlement option on the basis of an invoice for repair, in one of the voivodships of Poland. Comparison of historical data allowed to determine the differences in the rates applicable in both authorized and unauthorized workshops. The purpose of this article is to answer the question of what divergences are found between the service hours of tinplate and paint work in unauthorized and authorized repair stations. The main beneficiaries of the presented results are car valuers, insurance companies and court experts in Poland.

Omówiono nowe możliwości diagnozy i sposoby wykrywania tego nadzwyczajnego stanu. Badania są rozwiązaniem potrzeb występujących w eksploatacji. Rynek usług serwisowych od dawna oczekiwał rozwiązania opisywanego problemu.

W artykule omówiono jak modyfikacja oprogramowania sterującego jednostką napędową wpływa na osiągi oraz ekonomię pojazdu. W kolejnym etapie nastąpiło przeprowadzenie zaawansowanych testów oraz technicznych badań z wykorzystaniem wysokiej jakości sprzętu do diagnostyki i wykonywania pomiarów. Modyfikacje miały na celu wyznaczenie pozytywnych jak i negatywnych aspektów wpływających na : moc oraz moment obrotowy silnika, elastyczność w zakresie konkretnych prędkości oraz wzrost ekonomii użytkowania pojazdu. Przeprowadzone badania pozwoliły określić przyrost mocy jak również różnice spalania dla wybranych jednostek napędowych.

The main goal of the article was to carry out professional, possibly comprehensive modifications of the software of the computer governing the operation of a passenger car drive unit with a variety of parameter selection options. In the next stage, advanced tests and technical inspection were carried out using high quality diagnostic and measuring equipment. Modifications were aimed at identifying both positive and negative aspects affecting: the engine’s power output and torque; flexibility in specific speed ranges; an increase in the level of the economical usage of the vehicle. The tests were carried out on various vehicles with petrol and diesel engines in order to optimally mirror the actual impact of parameter changes on particular drive units. The conducted tests were intended to cast light on the hidden capabilities of drive units and to show how they could be used without the necessity of interfering with mechanical systems. All the tested cars were controlled with electronic components manufactured by Bosch in order to unify the implemented modifications, and the production dates of the tested vehicles belonged to the period from 1999 to 2012. The age distribution of the vehicles was intended to make the users aware of how wide a range of customers could benefit from a significant improvement in power and torque characteristics in such a car. Increasing flexibility of the vehicle is the principal factor allowing the user of the roads to safely perform the manoeuvres of joining the traffic or overtaking. The above-mentioned measures are actually impossible to implement on one's own and the user themselves also has to correctly estimate whether their car is in the technical condition which will allow them to safely perform such interference.

In the past period, around the world there were signs of depletion of natural energy sources. This is manifested by rising fuel prices and a significant increase in commitment to the search for alternative sources of energy that can be used in vehicles. The said increase in fuel prices caused the operators of the vehicles attempted to reduce its consumption by introducing the principles of economic and efficient driving. These rules represent a compromise between the economy, security and pleasure. It combines a quiet, smooth ride under certain conditions with dynamic acceleration when possible. The paper presents the influence of selected traffic conditions on its economy. It is a development of the literature of this subject [1-13].

W minionym okresie na całym świecie pojawiły się symptomy wyczerpywania się zapasów naturalnych źródeł energii. Przejawia się to poprzez rosnące ceny paliw oraz znaczne zwiększenie zaangażowania w poszukiwania alternatywnych źródeł energii, które mogą znaleźć zastosowanie w pojazdach samochodowych. Wspomniany wzrost ceny paliwa sprawił, że użytkownicy pojazdów podjęli próby zmniejszenia jego zużycia poprzez wprowadzenie zasad ekonomicznej i oszczędnej jazdy. Zasady te stanowią kompromis pomiędzy oszczędnością, bezpieczeństwem oraz przyjemnością. Łączy spokojną, płynną jazdę w określonych warunkach z dynamicznym przyspieszaniem wtedy, kiedy jest to możliwe. W artykule przedstawiono wpływ wybranych warunków ruchu na jego ekonomiczność. W pracy przedstawiono przykład badań eksperymentalnych prowadzonych podczas eksploatacji pojazdu w warunkach ekstremalnych. Do badań wykorzystano pojazd sportowy o dodatkowo zmodyfikowanych parametrach fabrycznych, w celu uzyskania ponadstandardowych osiągów. Pojazd eksploatowano na specjalnie przygotowanym torze, a parametry jazdy dostosowano tak, aby osiągnąć maksymalne osiągi. Podczas testów dokonano rejestracji przyspieszeń drgań nadwozia, siedziska pojazdu oraz głowy kierowcy. Drgania występujące na siedzisku poddano normatywnej ocenie. Dodatkowo mając na uwadze narażenie kierowcy na drgania, dokonano oceny siedziska w pojeździe. Do przeprowadzenia analiz wykorzystano środowisko obliczeniowe Matlab.

The paper presents an example of experimental researches, performed during operation of the vehicle in extreme conditions. To perform tests a sport vehicle was used, with additionally modified factory parameters in order to achieve non-standard performance. The vehicle was used on a specially prepared track, and driving parameters were adjusted so as to achieve maximum performances. During the tests: the driver’s body, vehicle seat surface and driver’s head acceleration of vibration were registered. Additionally, whereas estimation the driver exposure, vibration was evaluated on the surface and the lower part of vehicle seat. For the analyzes MATLAB computing environment was used.

W aspekcie technicznym nadwozie samochodów osobowych pełni odpowiedzialną funkcję struktury nośnej, do której to mocowany jest zespół napędowy, układ kierowniczy, układ zawieszenia itp. Istotne jest również to aby struktura nadwozia zapewniała wysoki poziom bezpieczeństwa kierowcy oraz pasażerom znajdującym się wewnątrz pojazdu. W pracy zostanie przedstawiona potrzeba identyfikacji stanu technicznego nadwozi samochodów osobowych w aspekcie bezpieczeństwa. Omówiono wpływ procesu degradacyjnego jakim jest korozja na stan techniczny konstrukcji nośnych oraz wynikające z tego zagrożenie bezpieczeństwa drogowego. Podano metody analizy modalnej oraz podjęto próbę wykorzystania eksperymentalnej analizy modalnej w celu określenia stanu technicznego wybranego elementu konstrukcji nośnej samochodu osobowego.

Body is one of the most important bands of cars both in terms of visual, functional as well as technical. The technical aspect of car body fully responsible position of the support structure to which it is mounted powertrain, steering, suspension, etc. It is also important to the structure of the body to ensure a high level of safety of the driver and passengers located inside the vehicle. The work will need to identify the body of the technical condition of cars in terms of safety. The influence degradative process that is corrosion on the condition of the load-bearing structure and the consequent threat to road safety. The test methods for modal analysis, and an attempt to use the experimental modal analysis to determine the technical condition of the selected element of the superstructure of a passenger car.

W pracy zaprezentowano Stanowisko Prób Dynamicznych zaprojektowane i wykonane w Instytucie Lotnictwa. Przytoczono przepisy dotyczące badań wytrzymałościowych przednich i bocznych szyb pojazdów szynowych, na podstawie których opracowano metodykę badawczą oraz sporządzono założenia do budowy stanowiska. Porównano przepisy International Union of Railways z British Railways Board dotyczące badań szyb przednich pojazdów szynowych które zawarte są w karcie UCI – 651 i wymaganiach GM/TT0122. Opisano stanowisko z podaniem niektórych parametrów technicznych. W pracy zamieszczono charakterystyki prędkościowe Stanowiska Prób dynamicznych i sposoby pomiaru prędkości pocisku testowego. Zwrócono uwagę na istotne warunki bezpieczeństwa przeprowadzania testów dynamicznych na Stanowisku. Ponadto w pracy podano niektóre nazwy firm dla których Instytut Lotnictwa przeprowadził badania dynamiczne szyb pojazdów szynowych. Instytut Lotnictwa wydaje orzeczenia, które są akceptowane przez Centrum Naukowo-Techniczne Kolejnictwa. We wnioskach oceniono przydatność prowadzonych badań dynamicznych pojazdów i innych obiektów.

This work presents the Laboratory of Dynamic Tests designed and built at the Institute of Aviation. Quoted test provisions for front and side windows of the rail vehicles, which have been developed based on research methodology and assumptions drawn up to build the laboratory. We compared the provisions of the International Union of Railways of the British Railways Board for testing windscreen rail vehicles which are contained in the card UCI - 651 and requirements of GM / TT0122. Describes the position of giving some technical parameters. The paper presents the characteristics of Dynamic Tests the speed pitches and methods of measuring the speed of the missile test. Drew attention to the important safety conditions for dynamic testing bench. Moreover, in the work quoted some companies where they were conducted dynamic testing window rail vehicles. Rozwój technik pomiarowych i możliwość prowadzenia badań w warunkach rzeczywistej eksploatacji zarówno w aspekcie pomiaru emisji szkodliwych składników gazów wylotowych jak również zachodzących procesów spalania umożliwiają weryfikację dotychczas przyjętych założeń do rozwoju silników spalinowych. W artykule zaprezentowano wyniki pomiarów toksycznych składników gazów wylotowych samochodu osobowego w odniesieniu do zachodzących procesów wewnątrz komory spalania w rzeczywistych warunkach ruchu. Badania wykonano dla pojazdu osobowego wyposażonego w silnik o zapłonie samoczynnym, poruszającego się w ruchu miejskim. Celem badań była wstępna weryfikacja zachodzących procesów wewnątrz komory spalania mających wpływ na emisję CO. Do pomiaru procesów szybkozmiennych oraz zawartości CO w gazach wylotowych wykorzystano mobilną aparaturę typu PEMS (Portable Emissions Measurement Systems) oraz zestaw do indykowania silnika podczas rzeczywistej eksploatacji.

The development of measurement techniques and the ability to perform research in real conditions both in terms of measuring the emission of harmful exhaust gases as well as the processes of combustion yet possible to verify the assumptions adopted for the development of internal combustion engines. The article presents the results of measurements of exhaust emissions of gases of a passenger car in relation to the processes inside the combustion chamber in real traffic conditions. Test was carried for a passenger car equipped with a modern diesel engine in urban cycle. The aim of the test was preliminary verified of the processes inside the combustion chamber having an impact on emissions of CO. For the measurement of gases pressure inside combustion chamber and emission of CO was used portable emission measurement system.

Przedstawiona w pracy problematyka dotyczy zagadnień związanych z analizą uszkodzeń środków transportu oraz ich wpływu na możliwość realizacji zadań transportowych. Przedstawiono wybrane wyniki badań dotyczące między innymi przyczyn, postaci, sposobu naprawy i skutków na realizację zadań przewozowych uszkodzeń zaistniałych w analizowanych środkach transportu drogowego. Na podstawie identyfikacji obiektu badań wybrano pojazdy do badań w sposób losowy spośród marek i modeli środków transportu najczęściej użytkowanych w analizowanym przedsiębiorstwie realizującym zadania przewozowe. Obiektem badań jest ogólnie traktowany system eksploatacji pojazdów. Jako przykład obiektu badań, na którym zilustrowano rozważania podjęte w pracy wybrano przedsiębiorstwo będące tzw. korporacją taksówkarską realizująca zadania transportowe różnymi środkami transportu w wybranej aglomeracji miejskiej. W obiekcie badań najczęściej użytkowanymi pojazdami są samochody osobowe następujących typów (modeli): VW Passat B5 FL, Ford Mondeo Mk3, Mercedes Benz W210, Audi A6 C5 oraz Skoda Octavia I. The problems presented in this paper deal with the issues related to the analysis of damages of the means of transport and their influence on the possibility to perform transport tasks. Selected results of investigations regarding, among other things, the reasons for, nature, method of repair and influence of the damages occurred in the analysed means of road transport on performance of the transport tasks are presented herein. Based on identification of the investigation object the vehicles to be investigated were randomly selected from among the brands and models of means of transport being used most frequently in the analysed enterprise performing transport tasks. The investigation object is a generally defined vehicle utilisation system. As an example of the investigation object, based on which the considerations undertaken in the paper were illustrated, a company being so called taxi corporation performing transport tasks by various means of transport in the selected urban agglomeration 3649 was chosen. The most frequently used vehicles in the investigation object are personal cars of the following types (models): VW Passat B5 FL, Ford Mondeo Mk3, Mercedes Benz W210, Audi A6 C5 and Skoda Octavia I. The investigation results presented herein refer to the vehicles of the mentioned models. Those vehicles are the property of the drivers providing passenger transport services for profit purposes.

In the automotive industry in the world continuously being sought universal driving cycle. The test should closely match the fuel consumption and emissions of toxins in the fumes of the test vehicle in its real operating conditions [4]. However, in the previously developed solid driving tests established velocity profiles differ significantly from actual driving conditions. The difference in fuel consumption, comparing the natural operation of the NEDC test reaches an average of 18%. The new version of the driving cycle should be more realistic to the everyday use of additional equipment and gadgets that are installed in modern vehicles [1]. The impact on fuel consumption by vehicles may be conditioned not only by its size and weight, but also by the geometry of the track motion, forces causing the motion and the forces acting on the car when driving on curved tracks. The vehicle encounters and overcomes all the forces that act on it while driving-resistance movement. In the energy intake through the vehicle runs in the motor changes at the expense of the energy of fuel consumed. The driving force performs work on a given stretch of road balancing (predominant) friction. On the basis of the calculated resistance movement and the energy consumption of the movement in the selected object was a comparison of the actual consumption of fuel in the vehicle with the ignition spark. Analysis was performed and found differences in three cycles: urban, extra-urban and combined.

Also, it was showed the ways of service indicators resets procedures wit use of manual techniques as well as with use of diagnostic interface units. Moreover, selected problems connected with service realization of BMW vehicles with use of the CBS system were showed.
