The article discusses the concept of sustainable development and the need for its implementation in the mining industry enterprises. It defines each group of companies’ stakeholders and sets gauges measuring their expectations. Additionally, it shows the impact of the financial, environmental and social determinants of building company’s value for its stakeholders. The advantages of doing business in a responsible, socially acceptable manner using an integrated reporting system have also been shown in the article. Implementation of sustainable development policies are discussed on the basis of Lublin Coal mining company "Bogdanka" S.A.

W artykule omówiono koncepcję społecznej odpowiedzialności biznesu (CSR) i potrzebę jej wdrażania w przedsiębiorstwach górniczych. Przedstawiono wpływ czynników pozafinansowych, społecznych i środowiskowych na decyzje inwestorów oraz wartość spółek w różnych horyzontach czasowych. Widząc potrzebę i korzyści z wdrażania strategii CSR na świecie wprowadza się różnego rodzaju indeksy i standardy raportowania działań w CSR. W Polsce od niedawna jest to RESPECT Index, do którego wchodzą również niektóre spółki górnicze. Omówiono również korzyści, jakie mogą odnieść przedsiębiorstwa górnicze z działalności zgodnej z koncepcją CSR raportowania tejże działalności zgodnie z ustalonymi standardami.

This paper presents the concept of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and the need for its implementation in mining enterprises. The influence of social and environmental factors on the decisions of investors and the value of companies in different time horizons has been presented. Taking the need for and benefits of implementing a CSR strategy around the world, there have been introduced different types of indexes and reporting standards in CSR activities. For instance, in Poland it is the RESPECT Index which also includes some mining enterprises. We also discussed the benefits to be gained from the activities of a mining enterprise, in accordance with the concept of CSR reporting this activity, pursuant to the established standards.
