Content available remote „Milczenie Form” - uwolniona materia betonowa w rzeźbie
PL

Although the application of concrete in the visual arts is not as wide as in the construction industry, it reflects diverse artistic attitudes and expectations regarding this material. We come across its use mostly in public space, being a natural space for concrete. When it comes to small-scale sculptures exhibited in art galleries, concrete is not found that often. Sculpture is a vast field dominated from one hand by traditional materials such as bronze, stone, ceramics, but also open to spatial and material experiments. The articles presents a number of concrete use cases in the creative way: its method, the output, and the conclusions. The aim of the project was to depart from the typical architectural function of concrete and to present it as the flexible one that enables one to take advantage of its expressive features. As a result, a set of works called “The Silence of Forms” was created, which was fully or partially presented in some art exhibitions in the years 2019-2021.

Content available remote Rough Sets and Sorites Paradox
EN
We discuss the rough set approach to approximation of vague concepts. There are already published several papers on rough sets and vague concepts staring from the seminal papers by Zdzisław Pawlak. However, only a few of them are discussing the relationships of rough sets with the sorites paradox. This paper contains a continuation of discussion on this issue.

Content available remote On Some Issues in the Foundation of Rough Sets : the Problem of Definition
EN
This paper is concerned with some issues connected with the foundations of rough set theory. Particularly the problem of definition of a rough set is discussed.
EN
In this paper, lower/upper, boundary, and negative regions of set approximations, the fundamental concepts of classical rough set theory, have been considered as primitive ones. Assuming that they are independent of each other, a generalized framework for their investigations is outlined. Its main building blocks are base sets and definable sets. Lower/upper approximations, boundaries and negative sets are all considered as definable sets and their mutual interactions are studied. Lastly exact/rough sets are discussed. In generalized framework, four groups of formulae are defined for representing different variants of rough sets. They emphasize distinct features of roughness, and so it may be of highly importance which one is used in practical applications. Some possible choices appeared in authors’ publications are mentioned.

Traditional safety and health system measurement procedures, practiced in various industries produce qualitative results with a degree of uncertainty. This paper presents a fuzzy-logic-based approach to developing a fuzzy model for assessing the safety and health status in the tea industry. For this, the overall safety and health status at a tea estate has been considered as a function of 4 inputs: occupational safety, occupational health, behavioral safety and competency. A set of fuzzy rules based on expert human judgment has been used to correlate different fuzzy inputs and output. Fuzzy set operations are used to calculate the safety and health status of the tea industry. Application of the developed model at a tea estate showed that the safety and health status belongs to the fuzzy class of good with a crisp value of 7.2.

Content available remote Rough Sets : Some Foundational Issues
EN
The article analyses prevalent definitions of rough sets from the foundational and mathematical perspectives. In particular, the issue of language dependency in the definitions, and implications of the definitions on the issue of vagueness are discussed in detail.

Content available remote Near Sets. Special Theory about Nearness of Objects
EN
The problem considered in this paper is how to approximate sets of objects that are qualitatively but not necessarily spatially near each other. The term qualitatively near is used here to mean closeness of descriptions or distinctive characteristics of objects. The solution to this problem is inspired by the work of Zdzisaw Pawlak during the early 1980s on the classification of objects by means of their attributes. This article introduces a special theory of the nearness of objects that are either static (do not change) or dynamic (change over time). The basic approach is to consider a link relation, which is defined relative to measurements associated with features shared by objects independent of their spatial relations. One of the outcomes of this work is the introduction of new forms of approximations of objects and sets of objects. The nearness of objects can be approximated using rough set methods. The proposed approach to approximation of objects is a straightforward extension of the rough set approach to approximating objects, where approximation can be considered in the context of information granules (neighborhoods). In addition, the usual rough set approach to concept approximation has been enriched by an increase in the number of granules (neighborhoods) associated with the classification of a concept as near to its approximation. A byproduct of the proposed approximation method is what we call a near set. It should also be observed that what is presented in this paper is considered a special (not a general) theory about nearness of objects. The contribution of this article is an approach to nearness as a vague concept which can be approximated from the state of objects and domain knowledge.
