In power systems commonly appear various disturbances such as voltage unbalance, voltage deviations, frequency deviations (in autonomous power systems) and voltage waveform distortions. Voltage waveform distortions are usually associated with presence of higher harmonics. Also, in some power systems are appeared voltage components, which have frequency components higher than the fundamental frequency and are not an integer multiple of the fundamental one - called interharmonics. Sometimes interharmonics occur together with subharmonics, i.e. voltage components with frequency less than the fundamental one. Both interharmonics and subharmonics are the most seldom investigated power quality disturbances, and their impact on an induction machine is still not satisfactorily explained. This paper is devoted to the effect interharmonic and subharmonic voltage components on currents in windings of an induction machine. The results of experimental investigations are presented for two low-power induction cage machines.

During the soft start-up of the induction motor, various negative phenomena connected with considerable heat emissions in the motor’s winding are observed. They may, particularly in the case of the prolonged start-up, result in a damage to the squirrel – cage winding. What is more, torque impulses may be harmful to the elements of the driving system. The article discusses the use of the soft start-up and indicates that it helps to minimize only some of the negative phenomena. There are cases in which the soft start – up proves to be an additional risk to the motor. The distribution of the energy emitted in particular elements of the motor’s winding has been calculated, both during the start-up with the use of the soft start-up and during the direct on-line start-up, in the deep-bar 320 kW motor. For the purpose of the illustration of the analysis, the temperature of the rotor’s winding in the low-power induction motor under the discussed operating conditions has been altered.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań własnych autora w zakresie ustalenia przyczyn uszkadzania się izolacji uzwojeń silników indukcyjnych klatkowych WN w przemyśle krajowym. Przedstawiono rodzaje uszkodzeń izolacji. Omówiono metody diagnostyki off-line izolacji głównej uzwojeń silników indukcyjnych, zaprezentowano wyniki badań własnych w zakresie diagnostyki off-line.

This paper presents the own author's results of investigations in range of settlement of damaging in insulation of windings of high voltage squirrel-cage induction motors in the Polish industry. Author introduced typical damages of insulation winding. It was discussed methods of off-line diagnostics of main insulation of winding of induction motors, and it was presented also the own author's results of investigations in off-line diagnostics in the scope of off-line diagnostics.
