Poza monitoringiem właściwości przeciwpoślizgowych użytkowanych nawierzchni istnieje potrzeba ich oceny na etapie projektowania warstwy ścieralnej. W tym celu w Niemczech zostało skonstruowane urządzenie Wehner/Schulze, które służy zarówno do oceny odporności na polerowanie kruszyw grubych, jak i oceny właściwości przeciwpoślizgowych mieszanek mineralno-asfaltowych i betonowych przeznaczonych do warstwy ścieralnej.

The Wehner/Schulze machine is used for the assessment of skid resistance in laboratory conditions. The machine consists of two heads: one for polishing and one for the measurement of friction coefficient PWS. Three specimens from each mixture were made. The polishing action is performed by three rubber cones mounted on a rotary disc and rolling on the specimen surface. A mix of water with quartz powder was projected on the specimen surface during the rotations. The measurement of friction coefficient PWS is conducted after polishing. The second measuring head is composed of three small rubber sliders on a rotary disc. The disk rotates at tangential velocities up to 100 kph. Water flows over the surface being tested. The rotating disk is then dropped onto the wet surface and the coefficient of friction is measured. In the case of new asphalt specimens it is recommend to clean bitumen from aggregates using the grid blasting cabinet. The Wehner/Schulze machine can be used to assess the range of coarse aggregate and asphalt mixes and present the predictions of skid resistance.
