This study investigates the living conditions of elderly individuals with urinary incontinence and their usage of related products to assess their actual needs, including comfort, convenience, and affordability. Based on these findings, innovative design work was conducted, involving structural design, fabric preparation, and process selection. Ultimately, through product performance evaluation and refinement, the design requirements for comfort, convenience, and affordability were achieved. This research holds significant importance in addressing urinary incontinence issues among the elderly and can be applicable to individuals with restricted access to toilets or those engaged in prolonged activities. Furthermore, the study provides a valuable reference for designing and developing functional garments that cater to practical needs. With further production and market promotion, this research outcome is expected to yield greater value and impact on a larger scale.

The urinary incontinence diagnostic process should include a medical history focused on ailments related to it and their impact on the quality of patient’s life. The lack of proper control over the function of the lower urinary tract creates a lot of troubles for sufferers and prevents them from living an active professional, social, and family life. The patient with a suspicion of urinary incontinence is recommended to record in a voiding diary the number of mictions per day, the volume of urine, and episodes of incontinence. The invasive test called urodynamics is based on cystometry, profilometry, and uroflowmetry. A urodynamic examination performed in patients with incontinence allows for correct diagnosis and proposal of specific surgical or pharmacological treatment.

Urinary incontinence (UI) is a common condition, especially in women, and affects the quality of life in a physical, social, and economic meaning. Despite improvements in surgical techniques and the implementation of minimally invasive procedures, male and female stress UI still affects their well-being. Treatment limitations have encouraged researchers to investigate new approaches, including those of tissue engineering. The injection of autologous mesenchymal-derived stem cells (AMDC) might rebuild the urethra sphincter function and minimize leakage symptoms. The treatment is carried out with a rigid endoscope. The aim of this study is to present a practical calibration procedure for an oblique-viewing endoscope imaging system. This article presents the results of an examination of the variability of the internal camera’s parameters with the angle of rotation of the endoscope’s cylinder. The research proves that the most variable parameters are the coordinates of the image plane’s principal point. The developed model of variability can be implemented as a simple look-up table in a realtime operating device. In this article, a tool is proposed for the computation of the relative angle of cylinder’s rotation based only on images. All developed methods can be implemented in a robot-assisted system for an AMDC urethra sphincter injection procedure.

Content available remote Genetic background of urinary incontinence - state-of-the-art and perspectives

The paper presents an overview of the current studies attempting to determine the genetic background of urinary incontinence (UI) problems. The overview referred to the adaptations of biomedical literature from Medline, life science journals, and online books were searched from the earliest date possible to March 2015. Genetic variability studies (mostly with the use of single nucleotide polymorphism) in the context of UI are discussed. The authors indicate the variability of polymorphic forms of proteins, whose modified function may be related to the observed phenotypic symptoms: UI. The paper includes a discussion of the varied level of gene expression and the issue of defective process of the development of the urinary system in the context of UI disorders. The literature does not present any general, unequivocal description of the relationship between the genetic background and phenotype as UI. It is suggested that the methods of integration of data from various techniques (e.g. high throughputs) in reference to social, demographic, and other data may be the way of the approach used for the effective description of the relationship between genetic background and observed UI.
