Job stress and organizational citizenship behavior among university teachers within Bangladesh: mediating influence of occupational commitment

This study aims to explore the impact of job stress on organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) among university teachers in Bangladesh along with the mediating effect of occupational commitment (OC) on this relationship. An online questionnaire survey using the Google form was conducted to collect data from respondents. 244 valid samples were analyzed using bivariate correlation and regression analyses. The results of hierarchical regression analyses reveal that job stress is negatively and significantly linked to OC when controlling for demographic variables, such as age, gender, educational qualification, type of university, designation, and teaching experience; surprisingly, it has no signifi cant effect on OCB. However, OC is positively related to OCB. Also, the OC has a full mediating influence on the linkage between job stress and OCB. With the support of mediation test, this study suggests OC as a personal resource and mechanism to better manage teacher job stress and improve OCB. Detailed implications and contributions have been discussed in the previous sections.

W 2008 r. na Uniwersytecie Ekonomicznym we Wrocławiu powołano Forum Edukacji Biznesowej z misją kształcenia kompetencji biznesowych studentów oraz łączenia doświadczeń praktyków biznesu z wiedzą akademicką. Oferta Forum była skierowana do studentów UE we Wrocławiu. Forum istnieje już 5 lat, a wykładało na nim 120 menedżerów. Jest to już takie przedsięwzięcie, że można na podstawie jego doświadczeń sformułować kilka ogólnych ocen dotyczących menedżera w roli nauczyciela akademickiego. Wstępną hipotezą sformułowaną na potrzeby tego opracowania jest stwierdzenie, że osoby z doświadczeniem praktycznym w biznesie chcą i potrafią przekazywać wiedzę oraz umiejętności związane z prowadzeniem działalności gospodarczej. Barierą w szerszym wykorzystaniu tych doświadczeń jest niezrozumienie co do roli i miejsca tego typu wiedzy i umiejętności wśród osób z doświadczeniem teoretycznym i tych z doświadczeniem praktycznym

Business Competences Forum (BCF) was established in 2008 at Wroclaw University of Economics (WUE). The mission of the Forum is to train students, develop their business acumen and connect business professionals with academic knowledge. Business Competences Forum addresses its offer mainly to WUE students. Within five years the BCF hosted around 120 managers and business professionals. Although the organization is relatively young, after five years it is finally able to evaluate a business individual as an academic instructor. The results concur with our initial hypothesis that individuals with strong business practicum are very eager to share their experiences (e.g. how to run your own business) with the students and are completely competent to do so. However, the main problem with sharing those experiences is misunderstanding between academic instructors (theorists) and business professionals (practitioners) as it comes to the right role and right place of spreading knowledge skills among people with experience of the theoretical and practical experience.

Nowadays the quality of knowledge, gained competences and presented attitudes has a growing importance because they determine the future officers' development, and influence their successes and failures. Continual progress in many fields and disciplines of science causes some parts of knowledge to lose their legitimacy. Ways of maintaining the quality of education, and raising the effectiveness of studies should be found. The proper use of already acquired knowledge both by academic teacher and student (officer) is vital. It seems that it is not knowledge or abilities o f academic teachers but their attitude that will play a deciding role. Treating the student with respect, dignity and a certain degree of freedom will foster a good rapport with the teacher.

Ten kto podjął decyzję by stać wojskowym nauczycielem akademickim znajduje się w specyficznej sytuacji - przynależy bowiem do dwóch grup zawodowych : nauczycieli i żołnierzy. Przedstawiciele tych grup podlegają ostrej i wnikliwej obserwacji społeczeństwa. Wiele się od nich wymaga tak pod względem profesjonalności jak i postawy moralnej. By przybliżyć chociaż w części sylwetkę wojskowego nauczyciela akademickiego od strony moralno-zawodowej przeprowadzono badania ankietowe. Objęły one 214 osób z różnych uczelni wojskowych. Zebrane wypowiedzi umożliwiły poznanie opinii wojskowych nauczycieli akademickich na temat stosunku do wykonywanej pracy, motywów pozostania oficerem i nauczycielem, cech harakteryzujących wzorowego żołnierza i pedagoga oraz wartości uznawanych przez wojskowych nauczycieli akademickich. Materiał zamieszczony w artykule jest analizą części badania poruszającego szerszą problematykę - omówienie w całości jego wyników ukaże się w sprawozdaniu z badań.

The military teaching staff belong to two professional groups: teachers and soldiers. The both groups are subject to particularly penetrating observation by society. Professional and moral demands are large. In order to make a closer look on the professional and moral aspects of military teaching staff, the test action has been undertaken. The analysis of data covered 214 military teaching staff from different military Academies. The results enabled the formulation of military teaching staff opinion concerning the job motivation to be a teacher and an officer, the characterization of a good teacher and officer and the values which are accepted by soldiers and teachers.
