The reference COM standard of the gas flow rate and the volume flow rate, which is located in the Central Office of Measures, consists of six measurement stands, which are either bell provers or piston measurement stands. In this article, we present construction, operating principle and results of international comparisons of the largest bell prover measurement stand in the world.

W związku z dynamicznym rozwojem współczesnej gospodarki światowej i związanym z tym rozwojem infrastruktury metrologicznej w referacie podjęto próbę przedstawienia znaczenia wzorców jednostek miar i ich rozwój w ostatnim okresie. Omówiono rolę wzorców w światowym systemie miar oraz znaczenie porozumienia o „Wzajemnym uznawaniu państwowych wzorców jednostek miar oraz świadectw wzorcowania i świadectw pomiarów wydawanych przez krajowe instytucje metrologiczne”. Referat przedstawia omówione w dużym skrócie wzorce jednostek miar utrzymywane przez Główny Urząd Miar.

Metrology is the science of measurement and its applications. Metrology comprises all theoretical and practical aspects of measurements, irrespective of the value of measurement uncertainty and the field of application. The fast development of the contemporary global economy based on innovative technologies poses new challenges to modern metrology. Economical progress requires reliable measurements and tests that are internationally accepted, so that they do not constitute a technical barrier to trade and industrial development. The prerequisite for reliability of measurements and tests is availability of the metrological infrastructure. One of the most important elements of that infrastructure are measurement standards of possibly highest accuracy. This paper presents measurement standards maintained in the Central Office of Measures and their role in the national metrological infrastructure.

Pierwszym punktem opracowania będzie historycznie usytuowane "wzmiankowanie" o wspomnianych miarach, zakończone tabelką jednostek miary długości używanych w Syrii, Palestynie, Grecji i Rzymie. W części drugiej zaprezentujemy wersety zawierające poszczególne miary.

In our considerations, we will focus on units of measures as used in the Bible. The first point of the study will be a historically located "mentioning" of the aforesaid measures, ended with a table with units of measures used in Syria, Palestine, Greece and Rome. In the second part, we will present verses containing practicular measures.

Przedstawiono tendencje panujące w Międzynarodowym Biurze Miar (BIPM - Bureau international des poids et mesures), dotyczące stosowania jednostek miar logarytmicznych nepera i bela. Szczególną uwagę zwrócono na propozycję uznania jednostki miary neper o wymiarze równym jedności jako pochodnej jednostki należącej do układu SI. Zagadnienie to zilustrowano klasycznymi modelami stosowanymi przy definiowaniu tej jednostki.

Tendencies observed in the International Bureau of Measures related to the questions of appliance of neper and bel as units of logarithmic measures are presented. Particular attention was given to the proposal suggesting that the neper should be included in the class of SI derived units of dimension one. The problem was illustrated with classical models applied for defining this unit.
