Threats to civil aviation can be divided into conventional and unconventional. Their nature and effects are very diverse. Unconventional threats are less predictable and often bring equally severe consequences as the conventional ones, or sometimes even more severe. They include chemical, biological and radioactive agents, aircraft used as live missiles, and, in some cases, cyber weapons. The article shows that the problem of unconventional threats in civil aviation is significant, and its underestimation may bring tragic consequences.
