Content available Improved CSE with DLS-MMSE Criteria in TH-UWB System
EN
This article presents a study on the use of deter ministic least squares criteria combined with the minimum mean square error method for the purpose of computing filter coefficients of the channel shortening equalizer. This method is well known to alleviate inter-symbol interference in time hopping UWB systems. The validity of this method is applied to shorten the impulse response of the effective UWB channels and, therefore, reduce the complexity of the rake receiver. Results show a very promising advantage compared to partial rake (P-Rake), selective-rake (S-Rake) and optimal maximum shortening signal-to-noise ratio methods.

Content available remote New compact ship-shape antenna for the fifth generation bands
EN
This research presents a new ship-shape planar monopole antenna. The design has an extreme operating frequency covering the full lower fifth generation bands varying from 2.95 GHz to more than 19.85 GHz. This bandwidth furthemore includes other bands such as the IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac. The antenna has been designed and simulated via an industrial standard simulation software called CST microwave studio. The proposed design has a reduced structure with total size of 20x24x1.6 mm. The patch is printed on a substrate of Rogers Duriod RT 5880LZ which has relative permittivity of 1.96 and loss tangent of 0.00009. The reflection coefficient (S11) and normalized radiation pattern have been simulated. The design has a bandwidth of 17 GHz over which the radiation patrern is omnidirectional pattern. The ship-shape patch is suitable for the fifth generation systems and many other wireless applications.

The extraction of quantitative information from Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) data sets (radargrams) to detect and map underground utility pipelines is a challenging task. This study proposes several algorithms included in the main stages of a data processing chain associated with radargrams. It comprises preprocessing, hyperbola enhancing, hyperbola detection and localization, and parameter extraction. Additional parameters related to the GPR system such as the frequency band and the polarization bring data sets additional information that need to be exploited. Presently, the algorithms have been applied step by step on synthetic and experimental data. The results help to guide future developments in signal processing for quantitative parameter estimation.
