The article presents a new assessment of the publications of Polish scientists in 2022 based on the citation ranking (based on „World’s TOP2% Most Influenced Scientists”), which is compared with the results of the previous ranking from 2021. The comparison, which is quantitative and qualitative, is based on the total number of citations, the average number of citations related to the number of people included in the ranking and the average h-index determined for each University, and the sum of h-indexes. Numerous conclusions were drawn explaining the noticeable increase in the number of citations in the group of technical universities. There was a 20% increase in citations.

W artykule przedstawiono kolejną ocenę publikacji polskich naukowców w 2022 r. opartą na rankingu cytowań (na podstawie „World’s TOP2% Most Influenced Scientists”), którą zestawiono z wynikami poprzedniego rankingu z 2021 r. Porównanie, które ma charakter ilościowy i jakościowy, oparto na całkowitej liczbie cytowań, średniej liczbie cytowań odniesionej do liczby osób ujętych w rankingu oraz średniego indeksu h wyznaczonego dla każdej z uczelni i sumy indeksów h. Wyciągnięto liczne wnioski wyjaśniające dostrzegalny wzrost liczby cytowań w grupie wyższych uczelni technicznych. Odnotowano 20% przyrost cytowań.

Przedstawiono skrócony, bogaty życiorys wybitnego elektryka Leona Staniewicza, profesora Instytutu Elektrotechnicznego oraz Instytutu Inżynierów Cywilnych w Petersburgu, Politechniki Warszawskiej i Politechniki Gdańskiej. Podano opis różnych okresów w życiu Profesora powiązanych z historią Polski. Szczególną uwagę poświęcono działaniom prof. L. Staniewicza w Politechnice Gdańskiej, która 75 lat temu stała się uczelnią polską i w związku z brakiem kadry naukowo-dydaktycznej musiała sprostać wyzwaniom odbudowywanego ze zniszczeń wojennych kraju. Przedstawiono również sylwetki następców Profesora Staniewicza w Katedrze Elektrotechniki Teoretycznej.

A short, rich biography of the outstanding electrician Leon Staniewicz, Professor of the Electrotechnical Institute and the Institute of Civil Engineers in St. Petersburg, Warsaw University of Technology and Gdańsk University of Technology was presented. A description of various periods in the life of the Professor related to the history of Poland was given. Particular attention was devoted to the activities of prof. L. Staniewicz at the Gdańsk University of Technology, which 75 years ago became a Polish university and due to the lack of scientific and didactic staff had to meet the challenges of the country being rebuilt from war damage. Profiles of Prof. Staniewicz's successors in the Department of Theoretical Electrical Engineering are presented.

Artykuł przedstawia wyniki badań przeprowadzonych w polskich uczelniach technicznych w zakresie bezpieczeństwa przetwarzanych informacji. W artykule przedstawione zostały wnioski z badań dotyczących spełnienia wymogów w zakresie publikowania wyników i przechowywania dokumentów w uczelniach, m.in. podejście uczelni do organizacji bezpieczeństwa w zakresie gromadzenia i przechowywania informacji dotyczących obsługi procesu dydaktycznego, zbierania danych studentów, pracowników uczelni itp . Wyniki badań w tym obszarze wskazują, że uczelnie starają się wdrażać podstawowe zasady ochrony informacji, jednak stosują wybiórczo niektóre zasady ochrony informacji w tym zakresie i najczęściej czynią to w oparciu o bliżej nieokreślone i niekompletne standardy.

The article presents the results of studies conducted in Polish technical universities in the field of security of information processed. The article presents research findings regarding the fulfillment of requirements for the publication of results and storage of documents in higher education, including approach the university security organizations to collect and store information regarding the operation of the educational process, data collection of students, academics, etc. The results of research in this area suggests that universities are trying to implement the basic principles of data protection, however, apply selectively some of the rules for the protection of information in this regard and usually they do so on the basis of vague and incomplete standards.

W referacie zaprezentowano wyniki badań przeprowadzonych na stronach www polskich uczelni technicznych oraz ich bibliotek. Analizie poddano następujące obszary: repozytoria, biblioteki cyfrowe, serwisy informacyjne, wyszukiwarki naukowe, platformy naukowe dedykowane przemysłowi, bazy: dorobku naukowego, ekspertów, projektów badawczych, konferencji naukowych oraz narzędzia wspomagające ich obsługę. Wskazano na dobre i złe praktyki dotyczące zarówno interfejsów ww. platform jak i ich zawartości merytorycznej.

The paper presents the research results of the Polish technical universities’ websites. There was analysed the following areas: repositories, digital libraries, information services, search engines, scientific platforms dedicated to industry, databases: scientific publications, experts, research projects, scientific conferences and support tools. The authors showed good and bad practices for both interfaces and their substantive content.

Everybody, who smelled the fragrance of these corridors, the atmosphere of lecture halls, emotions of credits and stress of passed exams as well as emotion of receipt of this respectable university degree - becomes the member of the big family of its Graduates. As to the aged grandmother for 90th birthday - we come with flushed cheeks into these unforgettable walls to recall the most beautiful time of the life, to meat fellow-students, to penetrate the history arising in full view of us. This history formed by the Graduates of the Mining Department is presented by the present copy of the oldest Polish mining magazine, and the introduction to it is the preface written by the Dean, whose fade willed honour him to direct this department in the period of its splendid Jubilee - 90 years of existence.

Statistics making it possible to ascertain the ethnic origin of students in tertiary technical schools are highly irregular and imprecise. Such statistics dealt mainly with the religion of the students, which did not always coincide with ethnic origin (nationality). At the Polytechnical School in Lwow, the numbers of students whose religion was described as Judaism was second only to those who were Roman Catholics. Beginning from the mid- 1890s the numbers of the former group of students never fell below 10 per cent, with the numbers peaking in the school year 1904/1905, when they reached 15.1 per cent. Similar ratios could be observed at the Tsar Nicolaus II Warsaw Polytechnical Institute (WIP), where until 1905 students of the Judaic faith accounted for over 15 per cent of all those studyingthere. After the boycott of the Institute by Poles in 1905, the ratio of Jewish students fell to below 11 per cent (this being the result of a sudden increase in the number of students of the Russian Orthodox faith), but in absolute numbers there was an increase from 88 Jewish students in the year 1911 to 127 in the year 1914. In the initial stages of the inter-war period (1921/1922) there were more students of the Judaic faith at the Warsaw Polytechnic (Warsaw Technical University), 15.5 per cent, than at the Lwow Polytechnic (Lwow Technical University), 13.3 per cent. In the second half of the 1920s, these proportions were reversed; there was a fall in the numbers of that category of students to around 10-11 per cent, roughly corresponding to the percentage of the Jewish population in the Polish society at large. This fall in student numbers resulted from increasingly numerous anti-Semitic campaigns launched at institutions of tertiary education in the country, which became especially intensive in the second half of the 1930s. It is interesting to note that technical studies also attracted women of the Judaic faith, e.g. in 1935/1936 they constituted 28.3 per cent of all the women students at the Lwow Polytechnic, and 16.8 per cent at the Warsaw Polytechnic. They were to be found mainly among the students of chemistry and architecture. Between them, the two technical universities educated a total of 1200 engineers of the Judaic faith, including 100 women (another technical university, the Mining Academy (AG) in Cracow could boast of no more than a handful of Jewish students in 1920s, and since 1929/1930 there were no students of the Judaic faith there at all).
