Identification of external risk factors: on the example of production of fertilisers based on digestate

In the era of renewable energy development, one of the most important problems is the utilisation of residues of production of the so-called clean energy. In the case of biogas plants, the problem is the utilisation of waste after the anaerobic methane fermentation process of the organic substrate. One of the ways to use it is to produce organic and mineral fertilisers. However, the fertiliser plant may be exposed to a number of threats that may prevent its functioning. To avoid this, the factors that carry the risk need to be identified. The purpose of the article is to identify external risk factors for a fertiliser plant based on digestate. The following types of risk were identified as a result of the research: risk of supplying fertiliser components of inadequate quality; risk of non-compliance with deadlines for the delivery of raw materials or their total absence; risk of the presence of eggs of parasites and pathogenic bacteria in fertiliser; price risk; cyclical risk; risk of competition; currency, credit and interest rate risk.

Struktura kapitałów przedsiębiorstwa ma istotny wpływ na ryzyko finansowe działalności gospodarczej. Wraz ze wzrostem kapitałów obcych, wzrasta zmienność przepływów gotówkowych netto firmy. Korelacja ta będzie jednak różna w zależności od sytuacji rynkowej oraz wielkości sprzedaży. Jeżeli kapitał obcy zostanie umiejętnie wykorzystany, można spodziewać się równowagi w przepływach gotówkowych. Równowaga finansowa przedsiębiorstwa może się zachwiać, jeśli zarządzający nieumiejętnie wykorzystywać będą zarówno majątek jaki i kapitał przedsiębiorstwa. Analizując mierzalność skutków ryzyka można je podzielić na ryzyko finansowe lub pozafinansowe. Cechą charakterystyczną ryzyka finansowego jest możliwość jego zmierzenia i określenia jego wpływu na wynik finansowy.

The capital structure of an enterprise has a significant impact on the financial risk of business operations. Along with the increase in foreign capital, the volatility of the company’s net cash flows increases. However, this correlation will vary depending on the market situation and sales volume. If the foreign capital is skillfully used, one can expect a balance in cash flows. The financial balance of an enterprise may be shaken if managers misuse both the assets and the capital of the enterprise. By analyzing the measurability of risk effects, they can be divided into financial or non-financial risk. A characteristic feature of financial risk is the ability to measure it and determine its impact on the financial result.

The article describes the components of the risk assessment process, the analysis and classification of modern approaches to the evaluation of risk events. Justification of the possibility of using the methods of statistical, analytical, expert assessment approaches is based on the division of the methods into the groups by types of risks assessed: technical, investment, bankruptcy, market, credit, operational, in-house risk, the risk of financial assets and portfolios. The application examples of the assessment methods in terms of mining industry were provided.

W artykule przedstawiono elementy procesu oceny ryzyka wraz z analizą i klasyfikacją nowoczesnych podejść do ewaluacji ryzyka w przedsiębiorstwie. Szczególną uwagę zwrócono na możliwość zastosowania metod statystycznych, analitycznych i eksperckich w ocenie ryzyka: technicznego, inwestycyjnego, bankructwa, rynkowego, kredytowego, operacyjnego, wewnętrznego oraz ryzyka związanego z aktywami finansowymi i tworzeniem portfela tych aktywów. W części empirycznej artykułu w postaci studium przypadków zaprezentowano przykłady zastosowania metod oceny ryzyka w branży górniczej.
