The non-steady squeezing flow of a Herschel-Bulkley fluid in a two-dimensional wedge is investigated. The problem is reduced to a nonlinear two-point boundary-value problem. An exact similarity solution is obtained without any geometrical approximation. The velocity and stress fields are calculated for Herschel-Bulkley fluids and for power-law and Bingham fluids as special cases. The location of the yielded and unyielded regions is determined. The results for the power-law fluids are compared with the approximate analytical solution obtained by Chen [15].

The article presents the application results of an algorithm, called hybrid algorithm of parametric optimization, compounded by a genetic algorithm and a classic algorithm, in solve the two point boundary value problem in case the Pontryagin maximum principle is used to synthesize the optimal speed control of the induction motor. The optimization of I he control consist:, in minimizing the electric power losses in the magnetic core of the motor, limiting the amplitude of the stator current. The solution of the two-point boundary value problem is carried out for different indexes of parametric optimization using the genetic algorithm, the classic algorithm or both algorithms consecutively. These investigations allow establishing the most convenient index and the algorithm from the accuracy solution and the computer calculation speed point of view.
