The article describes a new test method to quickly evaluate the durability of a protective coating to dynamic contact with liquid metal. The essence of the method is the movement of a drop of liquid metal inside a rotating ring, covered from the inside with the protective coating under test. The parameters determined in the test are analogous to the classic pin-on-disk tribological test. The method was tested for the system: liquid alloy 2017A vs. AlTiN coating on a copper substrate. The test temperature was 750°C, and exposure times ranged from 30 to 90 minutes. Sliding path equivalent for the metal droplet/coating system ranged from 31.6 to 95 m. The study, which included visual evaluation of the surface of the samples, followed by phase and microstructural analysis, showed the high efficiency of the method for assessing the lifetime of protective coatings on contact with liquid metal. The investigated issue was also analyzed from the model side taking into account changes in the diffusion coefficient at the contact of liquid metal with the substrate, occurring with the progressive degradation of the protective coating.

W artykule przedstawiono rezultaty badań dotyczących cech użytkowych powierzchni pokrytych powłokami, przy czym nanoszenie powłok przyjęto jako jeden z rodzajów obróbki przyrostowej. Analizowano wpływ obecności i sposobu dozowania pigmentów na trwałość nanoszonych powłok w systemach transportowych.

In this paper the results of a study on the performance characteristics of coated surfaces was presented, where coating was chosen as a type of additive treatment. Analysis of the influence of pigments and dosage on the durability of the coatings applied In transport systems was carried out.

Coating life cycle starts at the time of its application to the substrate and its durability depends on many factors such as composition of the coating, the preparation of the substrate, the method of application and the operating conditions. In this article, which is the last about paint cycle life, durability tests methods of coatings are discussed. The paper deals with issues related to the influence of environmental factors on the durability of the coatings and their decorative effect, as well as the research methodology defined in Polish standards. This article is the fourth of a renewed educational serie Chemistry and Technology of Paints.

The work presents the study of coatings made in the process of magnetron sputtering of AISI310S grade chromium-nickel steel. The study covered coatings of the steel’s composition with an additions of 2–5% Si and of 2–5% Al. The coatings provided a resistance element in the electric circuit, and the measurement of their temperature was made by the voltage drop indirect method. It was found that the steel coatings had a resistance of 0.176 Ω within the entire range of testing temperature, and their failure occurred at a temperature of 350oC due to cracking and delamination from the substrate. Introducing the Si or Al addition to the coatings resulted in an increase in coating resistance and temperature stability, to 450 and 400oC, respectively. It was found that the durability evaluation method to influence coatings performance characteristics.

W pracy przedstawiono badania powłok PVD wykonanych w procesie magnetronowego rozpylania stali chromowo-niklowej gatunku X8CrNi25-21. Badano powłoki o składzie stali z domieszkami krzemu 2–5% i aluminium 2–5%. Badano trwałość powłok w temperaturach indukowanych przepływem prądu elektrycznego. Wykazano, że powłoki osadzone na monokrystalicznym krzemie posiadają rezystancję 0,176 Ω, a ich uszkodzenie następuje w temperaturze 3500C. Wprowadzenie do powłok domieszek krzemu lub aluminium powoduje wzrost ich oporności oraz trwałości temperaturowej odpowiednio do 450 i 400o C. Stwierdzono, że metoda oceny trwałości powłok ma wpływ na właściwości eksploatacyjne.

The problem of optimal design of rotationally symmetrical shells of uniform stability stiffened by ribs was discussed in the current paper. The structure was modelled in ANSYS software and solved by FEM method. The formulation of uniform local stability was successfully verified by the linear buckling solution. The optimization tasks were solved numerically using the modified Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm. The critical loading multiplier was increased by determining the optimal shape of the meridian, distribution of a wall thickness in a coat of shell and the placement of ribs inside the shell.

Na podstawie doświadczeń praktycznych wynikających z zakresu kompetencji inspektora w zakresie kontroli wykonawstwa robót przeciwkorozyjnych przy użyciu powłok organicznych i nieorganicznych przedstawiono jedną z inspekcji kontrolnych dotyczącą oceny zatłuszczeń powierzchni przed aplikacją powłok. Publikacja opisuje czynności związane z oceną zanieczyszczeń woskowych na powierzchni powłok malarskich pylonów o wysokości 70 metrów mostu nad rzeką Wisłą w Płocku w roku 2005. Zwrócono uwagę na dużą odpowiedzialność inspektora nadzoru, wymaganą wiedzę, doświadczenie zawodowe oraz konieczność posiadania specjalistycznego przeszkolenia wysokościowego do prawidłowego wykonania powierzonych zadań. Based on the practical experience derived from an inspector's scope of competence in terms of monitoring the execution of anticorrosion works with the use of organic and inorganic coatings, the proceedings of one such inspection covering the assessment of surface contamination prior to coating application has been presented. The paper provides an overview of activities involved in assessing the wax contamination present on the surface of coatings applied on the 70 meter high pylons of a bridge overlooking the Vistula river in Płock in 2005. Attention has been drawn to the high responsibility of a coating inspector, the required knowledge, professional experience as well as the need for proper altitude training required to duly complete the delegated tasks.
