The Determination of Potential Locations for Hotel and Service Facilities in relation to the Transport System – the Logistic Approach

The existing space distribution of hotel and service facilities in different places in the world is mainly the result of natural organic growth. Such facilities were built in areas of actual and/or potential demand, provided adequate financial resources and land were available. Additionally, an important factor was also the availability of technical infrastructure, including, in particular, transport. Sometimes those facilities were built without any detailed spatial analysis of their locations. It can be concluded that planning of hotel and service facilities lacked clear and accurate methods as well as analytic tools. The main reason was the lack of relevant databases. Along the development of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), information tools started to be used in nearly every area. It should be noted that the development of the hotel and service base can be significantly promoted while using modern ICT solutions. In their article, the authors, among others, propose to use trip planning tools backed by Big Data. A trip planner can be used to collect data that help to determine the location of hotel and service facilities (e.g. hotels, guest houses, motels, leisure, recreation and restaurant facilities). The article presents the case study from the Upper Silesia conurbation, Poland. The use of Big Data allows to select locations of investment corresponding to actual tourist travel needs, especially that every year tourism becomes an increasingly important sector of the national economy in many countries.

Podróż pociągiem z dziećmi nie należy do łatwych, chociaż z perspektywy dziecka jest dużo wygodniejsza niż podróż samochodem - na przykład z uwagi na brak ograniczenia swobody ruchu koniecznością jazdy w foteliku samochodowym. Mimo postępującej modernizacji taboru, pasażerowie podróżujący z dziećmi napotykają na wiele przeszkód, leżących nie po stronie kolei, ale wynikających z niedostosowania całego procesu przewozowego do potrzeb zmieniającego się rynku. Potencjał podróży z dziećmi jest w chwili obecnej niewykorzystywany, szczególnie w przypadku dalszych wakacyjnych podróży. W codziennych podróżach dzieci są przyzwyczajane do tego, że samochodem pokonuje się nawet dystanse wynoszące kilkaset metrów.

Travelling with children by train is not easy, although from a child's perspective it is much more comenient than a car trip - because for example there is no restriction on the freedom of movement necessary while travelling by car. Travelers with children in Poland, however, can encounter many obstacles during the journey - mainly due to the lack of additional services facilitating travelling by train and insufficient services provided outside the train (in touristic regions). It is easier and more common to travel by car and there lays the problem. The potential of family travel for holiday trips is not used and in everyday journeys the children are accustomed to the fact that by car they reach distances of several hundred meters.

Passive control of a beam subject to travelling

The subject of the study is the minimization of transverse vibration of elastic guideway excited by high-speed travelling inertial load. Two types of systems of passive control are considered, the post truss system and the dynamic vibration absorbers. In the first one, the beam is supported by posts fixed to the beam span and prestressed by tendons connected to the ends of beam. The considered system corresponds to the experimental test stand. It is modelled by a simply supported Bernoulli-Euler beam, where the material passive damping is represented by means of the Voigt model. In the system the control is performed by point transverse forces and bending moments applied to the beam span. The significant reduction of the amplitude of vibrations is achieved for a guideway supported by truss system consisting of two posts. The obtained results are compared with the data obtained for active control of the considered guideway.
