Both public and forest roads crossing forest are indispesable for forestry management. Key elements of a modern road network are motorways which according to the Programme of Motorways Construction in Poland will cross forest complexes. Transportation routes are necessary for functioning and both social and economic development but in agreement with the thesis of a balanced progress; everything should be done to reduce the influence of the processes on the environment. The article discusses the possible sources of dangers for the forest environment, especially those connected with waters resulting from construction procedures, exploitation and maintenance of transportation routes. The research on adaptation of the stabilization method with cement in order to increase durability of pavements constructed of non-burnt carbonaceous shales and limiting their infiltration by precipitation water is also presented. The carries out chemical investigations on eluates originating from coal refuse stabilized with cement showed higher concentrations of cadmium than permitted in ground waters in protected areas. However, the concentrations were in agreement with the norms for industrial forests and agricultural areas.
