Is considered a transport company, which operates a uniform in the sense of destination, means of transport for example tankers, with random exploitation characteristics. The company's transport potential is measured by the number of transportable means of transport for a sufficiently long period of time. The company operates on the market of transport services, where the demand for transport services is also random. The problem of optimizing the transport potential of a transport company is being considered, taking into account the random demand for transport services.

Celem tego artykułu jest ukazanie wiodących czynników, jakie decydują o rozwoju transportu kolejowego w kontekście funkcjonowania współczesnego sytemu obronnego państwa oraz zaprezentowanie wpływu transportu kolejowego na wspomniany system. Cel ten został podyktowany koniecznością poszukiwania wspólnych obszarów zainteresowania dotyczących systemu transportu kolejowego oraz obronności państwa, co być może umożliwi lepsze ich przygotowanie w różnych stanach funkcjonowania państwa.

The purpose of this article is to show the main factors determining the development of rail transport, and their impact on the functioning of the modern defense system of the state and to present the impact of rail transport on the aforementioned system. This objective was caused by the necessity to look for common areas of interest regarding the railway transport system and national defense, which may enable better preparation in various states of the state’s functioning.

Will be considered transport company exploiting the uniform in the sense of destination, means of transport such as tankers, with a total transport potential equal to a loading units (e.g. tones). The company operates in the transport market, where demand for transport services is random. The problem of fitting the transport potential of a transport company to the demand for such services is formulated. As measure of this fit assumes that the probability of a firm's transport potential is not being exceeded by demand over the given time horizon. Practically useful formulas for estimating such probability for cases where demand for transport services is described by stationary and non-stationary normal stochastic processes. The results are illustrated by numerical examples.

The article presents a method for determining the optimum number of vehicles transport company, depending on the size of the specific demand for transport services and depending on the performance properties of means of transport. Formulated the task of multi-criteria optimization and presents the results of its solution.

E70 waterway connecting Rotterdam with Kaliningrad is one of the longest navigation routes between east and west covered by the AGN agreement. Unfortunately, its Polish segment is virtually innavigable. The article presents characteristics and assesses transport availability of E70 waterway as well as attempts to estimate its transport potential.

System transportu Polski oparty pozostaje na wykorzystywaniu infrastruktury transportowej stanowiącej w przeważającej części własność państwa bądź samorządów. Stan taki powinien przekładać się na oczywiste oczekiwania w zakresie wykorzystania i kształtowania pożądanego poziomu produktywności tegoż majątku. Ocena stopnia wykorzystywania i ujawniane różnice obligują do rozpatrywania zagadnienia m.in. w zakresie możliwości technicznych infrastruktury poszczególnych gałęzi transportu.

The transportation system in Poland is based in major part on transport infrastructure which is owned by state or local governments. This situation should affect the expected usage and the determining of the desired productivity level of these assets. The estimation of the extent of infrastructure exploitation and exposed differences obligate to consider the problem among others in the sphere of technical possibilities of the infrastructure in particular transport branches.
