Russia-Ukraine war: transport and logistics support for grain supply chain in regional food safety

With the agricultural industry being vital for regional food safety, the extreme conditions under which it operated in Ukraine during the first half of 2022 has offered a unique insight on vulnerabilities of supply chains as well as the necessity of ensuring transport and logistics support for grain supply chain using adaptive methods. During that time frame, existing infrastructure, logistics, and involved materials were at risk of being stolen or by being destroyed due to direct combat damage or resulting fires. Established food transportation routes suffered from blockades, destruction, or congestion. Switching modes of transport for crop grains proved difficult with the absence of required transport and logistics support. The switch to vegetable oil transport proved harder still. Meanwhile, the re-established naval transportation shed a spotlight on GIS instruments that became critical for the safety of regional food supply chain. This inspired the idea of implementing methods of assessing the safety of transport facilities with the direct participation of the user based on geographic information. These methods can be key in enabling new export routes as part of a stable grain supply chain, supporting logistics behind constructing pipelines for transportation of vegetable oils. As the food safety of the world depends on new export routes, ensuring their efficiency and security will always remain relevant.

W artykule omówiony został problem bezpieczeństwa materiałów drewnopochodnych podczas transportu. Zaprezentowano trzy metody optymalizacji procesu transportu materiałów. Zaproponowano optymalne trasy przejazdu wyznaczone przy wykorzystaniu metody najbliższego sąsiada, algorytmu Little’a oraz systemu GPS.

The article covers the problem of safety of wood-based materials during transport. There are three ways to improve the material transport process. Optimal routes have been proposed, on the basis of the nearest neighbour method, the Little algorithm and the GPS system.

W artykule przedstawiono analizę towarowych przewozów kolejowych w wybranych euroazjatyckich korytarzach transportowych. Określono rolę transportu kolejowego w kształtowaniu jednolitego europejskiego obszaru transportu oraz płynące z tego korzyści. Przedstawiono bariery techniczne utrudniające realizację przewozów międzykontynentalnych oraz omówiono inicjatywy aktywizujące międzynarodową wymianę handlową.

The article presents an analysis of railway freight transport in selected Eurasian transport corridors. The role of railway transport in shaping the single European transport area and the benefits resulting from it have been defined. Technical barriers to the implementation of intercontinental traffic were presented and initiatives to activate international trade were discussed.

The rapid progress in the information technology, globalization of activities and growing clients` demand lay out new ways of business making. On the complicated, global transport market, the efficient cooperation between the partners within the same chain, undertaking profitable decision in due time and fulfilling the clients needs become the priority. The company providing transport services must be not only efficiently managed but most of all - must be managed optimally. rationalization and fastening of consignment registration, maximum reduction of errors, cost reduction, increasing effectiveness and competitiveness are among the most important goals which nowadays faces transport, forwarding and logistic companies. The advanced and verified informatics solutions are the indispensable support in realization of these goals.

Gwałtowny postęp w rozwoju technologii informatycznych, globalizacja działań i bardziej wymagający klienci wytyczają nowe drogi prowadzenia biznesu. W coraz złożonym, globalnym środowisku transoportowym, efektywna współpraca z partnerami w ramach sieci, podejmowanie na czas opłacalnych decyzji oraz spełnianie wymagań klientów stają się priorytetem. Praca przedsiębiorstwa świadczącego współcześnie usługi transportowe musi być już nie tyle zarządzana sprawna, co przede wszystkim zarządzana optymalnie. Usprawnienie i przyśpieszenie obsługi rejestracji przesyłek, minimalizacja błędów, ograniczenie kosztów, zwiększenie efektywności i konkurencyjności - to jedne z najistotniejszych celów, jakie stoją przed przedsiębiorstwami branży TSL. Nieodzownym wsparciem w ich realizacji są zaawansowane i sprawdzone rozwiązania informatyczne. I znów podobnie, jak w innych dziedzinach logistyki nie sposób nad tym wszystkim zapanować bez sprawnego, nowoczesnego narzędzia informatycznego.
