Trade with the use of internet technology (e-commerce) provides new opportunities for expansion on a larger scale for already existing business entities and offers prospects for rapid development for new companies. This is possible due to the low entry barriers that encourage the sale of products. Online retail trade is gaining increased popularity in Poland. This article aims to analyze e-commerce development in Poland from 2010-2020. This analysis is based on data from the Central Statistical Office. The results of the analysis clearly show that the share of purchases made via the internet has been systematically growing from year to year. This growth contributes to the faster development of transport logistics, as well as the transport of the goods itself.

Running business activity in the field of transport requires managing people to coordinate many factors at the same time. The most important factor for the functioning of an enterprise is the planning of execution of transport orders, which is an inherent element of effective management of a fleet of vehicles. The management of logistics and transport is a field of science derived from economic practice, therefore, real events occurring in an enterprise providing transport services at the national and international level were examined. Research and analysis of transport processes were conducted in an enterprise from the TSL sector functioning in the European Union in the aspect of efficient use of a fleet of vehicles.

In the modern world, transport as an integral part of social life is important. The development of all modes of transport requires continuous efficient management of the transport process, as well as the use of tools to optimise this process. This article aims to analyse international road cargo transport in EU countries and Poland from 2008-2018. The first part of this article analyses the number of employees and the trade of transport companies in EU countries. Then, the share of individual modes of transport in the transport of cargo in Poland from 2008 and 2018 is presented. The next section presents the results of the forecast of the volume of cargo transported by road in Poland from 2019-2021. The forecast values of the volume of cargo transport in Poland for 2019-2021, which were determined from the additive and multiplicative model, are at a similar level to the values for 2008-2018.

The strategic scorecard represents a major element of an enterprise's management system, which contributes to improving the key areas of operation, as well as precisely defining operational goals, metrics and tasks within the strategical framework. Increasing competitiveness, as well as progressive globalisation of the Transport, Shipping and Logistics (TSL) services market, requires constant adaptation to change from managers. It is, therefore, appropriate to use the strategic scorecard as it can be applied for continuous monitoring of progress in the implementation of strategy and, if necessary, for enhancing actions and the measurement system. The authors analysed a transport company operating in the Podkarpackie Voivodship, with the implementation of the strategic scorecard. The purpose of this article was to create a strategic scorecard for the transport company in the context of streamlining transport processes, while simultaneously improving the quality of customer service, translating into maximising financial results.

Purpose: The end of the first quarter of 2020 is the beginning of a new, difficult time in the functioning of transport companies, as well as the entire Polish and world economy. The appearance of Covid-19 (SARS-CoV-2) resulted in a number of market restrictions and a sharp decline in transport orders. Enterprises had to change the way they were managed and operated, had to adapt to a different economic reality in order to continue to prosper. The aim of the article is to define the essence of managing a transport company in the new market and economic conditions that appeared during the Covid-19 pandemic. Design/methodology/approach: The research procedure included review of polish and foreign literature, analysis of legal acts, questionnaire research, analysis of the content of internal documents of transport companies, method of analysis and synthesis, case study, methods of inductive and deductive reasoning. The article presents the results of scientific research on the impact of Covid-19 on the management and decisions made in a transport company. Findings: The high level of impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the management of a transport company has been demonstrated. The factor that most influenced the management and decisions of transport companies is the decline or fear of a decline in contracts for transport services. Transport companies are afraid of the further negative effects of the pandemic, and therefore do not want to take out investment loans in order to develop the company. The article discusses the activities of transport companies and the management of a transport company in crisis conditions. Research limitations/implications: The article presents a survey carried out in Polish transport companies from the Podkarpackie and Lubelskie voivodships. Therefore, the research results concern the area of south-eastern Poland. Practical implications: The results of the research may be helpful for managers of transport companies (management decisions made) in order to limit the negative impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on their business activities. Originality/value: The presented research and conclusions provide practical guidance to managers about what decisions and actions can improve the economic condition of their transport companies in the difficult period of the Covid-19 pandemic, based on the example of the analyzed transport companies.

Each organization and industry is specific, and the solutions functioning there are adequate to the nature of the company. In its entirety, this applies to transport companies that are growing dynamically, especially with regard to road and freight vehicle transport. These assumptions underlie the authors' scientific interest in one of the functions of management, which is motivation. The article shows that it is interpreted in many different ways. It has a special dimension when dealing with transport companies, where two main groups of employees can be distinguished: drivers and employees of other departments who care for the effective functioning of the company. It has been indicated that motivation plays an important role in achieving the set goals. In the case of transport companies, motivation is "governed" by slightly different laws than in the case of other economic entities. In the case of drivers, who are mainly men, the main motivator is cash prizes. The results of the conducted research showed that various types of motivators are appreciated in relation to the remaining employees of transport companies. Regardless of the function performed or the nature of the tasks performed, they are to be a positive stimulus of behaviour and attitudes aimed at achieving the company's goals.

W referacie zostały omówione zagadnienia związane z definicją outsourcingu oraz jego rodzajami. Wyjaśniona została istota usługi logistycznej z punktu widzenia firmy transportowo-spedycyjnej. Omówione zostały zagadnienia związane z transportem intermodalnym. Celem artykułu było przedstawienie firmy transportowo- -spedycyjnej, działającej na terenie Stanów Zjednoczonych, która wykorzystuje transport intermodalny jako główny element swoich działań.

The development of intermodal transport is increasingly becoming the only reasonable solution. It is caused by the rising amount of cargo and goods, growing competition for speed of delivery and the congestion and increasing environmental pollution. The use of intermodal transport as an element of outsourcing logistics services, brings many benefits. The paper discusses issues related to the definition of outsourcing and its types. The essence of the logistics service from the point of view of the transport and forwarding company was explained. Issues related to intermodal transport were discussed. The aim of the article was to present a transport and forwarding company operating in the United States, which uses intermodal transport as the main element of its activities.

Na podstawie danych udostępnionych przez przedsiębiorstwo, analizie poddana zostanie ilość i wysokość kar nałożonych na poszczególnych kierowców w danym okresie czasu. W poniższym artykule przytoczone będą również przykłady, jak skutecznie zmniejszać, bądź nawet wyeliminować ilość popełnianych wykroczeń. Omówienie tego tematu posłużyć ma zrozumieniu, jak istotny w dziedzinie transportu jest czas pracy kierowców i jak wielką odpowiedzialnością zostają obciążeni kierowcy wykonujący operację transportową.

Driver's working time is an indispensable element of road transport. The article will discuss legal regulations for the drivers' working time and the possibility of registering this time by appropriate recording devices. Based on the data provided by the company, the number and amount of penalties imposed on individual drivers in a given period of time will be analyzed. The following article will also provide examples of how to effectively reduce or even eliminate the number of offenses committed. Discussing this topic will serve to understand how important in the field of transport is the working time of drivers and how much responsibility is put on a driver performing a transport operation.

Sprawnie i efektywnie działający transport stanowi bowiem podstawę do rozwoju innych dziedzin gospodarki. W szczególności dotyczy to transportu towarowego, którego zadaniem jest sprawne, szybkie i tanie przemieszczanie różnego typu towarów. Można założyć, że podstawą dobrze działającej gospodarki rynkowej jest efektywny transport. Aby spełniał on swoją role w gospodarce, muszą być spełnione określone warunki. Jednym z nich są uwarunkowania prawne dotyczące czasu pracy kierowców w przedsiębiorstwach transportowych. Praktyka pokazuje, że w tym obszarze występują poważne problemy związane z obowiązującymi regulacjami prawnymi, które w istotny sposób utrudniają prace kierowców oraz przedsiębiorstw transportowych. W artykule skoncentrowano się na wyjaśnieniu tego problemu. W tym celu przeprowadzono badania ankietowe wśród kierowców oraz właścicieli przedsiębiorstw transportowych. Na podstawie uzyskanych wyników podjęto próbę określenia, jak obecne uwarunkowania prawne są przestrzegane przez kierowców oraz jaki mają wpływ na efektywność przedsiębiorstw transportowych. Otrzymane wyniki dowodzą, że w wielu przedsiębiorstwach przepisy te stanowią poważną barierę rozwoju.

Transport is one of the basic sectors of the global economy. It has a fundamental impact on the development of the global economy as well as the entire civilization. The importance of transport for economic development in Poland is also enormous since efficiently and effectively operating transport is the basis for the advancement of other sectors of the economy. In particular, it concerns freight transport, which task is to move various types of goods efficiently, quickly and cheaply. It can be assumed that effective transport is the key to a well-functioning market economy. However, to fulfil its role in the economy certain conditions must be met. One of them are legal conditions concerning drivers’ working time in transport companies. Practice shows there are serious problems in this area. They are related to the applicable legal regulations, which significantly impede the work of drivers and transport companies. The article focuses on explaining this problem. For this purpose, a survey was conducted among drivers and owners of transport companies. Based on the results obtained, an attempt was made to determine how current legal conditions are observed by drivers and what impact they have on the efficiency of transport companies. The obtained results prove that in many enterprises these provisions constitute a serious barrier to their development.

The aim of the article is to define the levels of income and outcome that make the purchase of means of road transport effective and to show this on the example of a small enterprise operating in the TSL sector. Analysis of scientific literature, observation, interview, analysis of documents and mathematical methods were the methods used to carry out the research. The analysis lead to the conclusion that for small businesses of the TSL sector leasing is more profitable form of financing the purchase of rolling stock.
