Non-prismatic channels for reducing shear stress

To reduce the sediment transport capacity, shear stress needs to be reduced as well. The article describes work that has been done to find a way to make these reductions possible. The theoretical study and the approach proposed allowed us to obtain a general equation that determines conditions and calculates the most important parameters which support the reduction of shear stress. This describes the mechanism that erodes soils by free surface water flow. In a similar vein, we have shown that adding a short non-prismatic channel to the entrance of a prismatic channel, which has the same geometric shape, is a very powerful way to reduce shear stress. With the idea of reducing shear stress, we have shown that the water-surface profile type plays a key role and must therefore be included in future reflections on reducing the importance of shear stress. Additionally, the notion of efficiency was introduced that allows to evaluate the expected gain after the reduction of shear stress and adding a short non-prismatic channel. The laws of similarity applied to free surface flows allowed us to obtain an equation with several equivalence scales and compare different geometric shapes in terms of their efficiency in the reduction of shear stress.

This paper details the design and potential implementation of standing seats in a commuter rail vehicle for the purposes of maximising capacity and revenue. The vehicle interior design is suited to the “Commuter Class” – a subset of travellers who travel primarily within the commuter belt and frequently utilise rail networks on a daily basis but require little additional space for luggage or peripherals. The concept delivers capacity increases in excess of 50% whilst still offering passengers a greater degree of personal space when compared with standing in aisles or gangways. The impact on vehicle stability and supporting intelligent systems are also discussed, delivering a unique design tailored specifically to meet the needs of the commuter class passenger.

Artykuł opisuje szczegółowo projekt stojących miejsc siedzących i potencjał ich wprowadzenia, w podmiejskim pojeździe kolejowym, w celu maksymalizacji wydajności i dochodów z przejazdu. Wnętrze takiego pojazdu jest dostosowane do ludzi przemieszczających się głównie w okręgu miejskim, podróżujących codziennie i wymagających odrobinę miejsca dla mniejszych bagaży czy urządzeń peryferyjnych. Koncepcja zapewnia wzrost pojemności o ponad 50%, dodatkowo oferując pasażerom jeszcze większy stopień osobistej przestrzeni w porównaniu ze staniem w korytarzach lub przejściach. Wpływ na stabilność pojazdu i wspieranie inteligentnych systemów są także uwzględnione, dostarczając tym samym unikalną konstrukcję dostosowaną specjalnie do potrzeb pasażera pociągów podmiejskich.

This text results the discussion of the navigator with the architect about possibilities of contemporary people having at his disposal perfect means of transport to which do not equal formed by millenniums competences within the range the geospace orientation. They were shaped among other things under of canons of the town-planning and the architecture however simultaneously predispositions of the man formed. Revolutionary changes in the technique and accompanying them the huge development of transportation possibilities causes essential disturbances of this process, which seems be natural. An aim of authors is to point out the problem and to discuss reasons of this, as well as the need of its solution.

Złożoność zadań wynikających z niesienia pomocy poszkodowanym w klęskach żywiołowych wymusza wyposażenie jednostek ratowniczych w środki logistyczne o dużej pojemności transportowej. Jednym z takich środków jest pływający transporter gąsienicowy PTS, który umożliwia ewakuację ludności i mienia zarówno na lądzie jak i na przeszkodach wodnych. Kończące się resursy użytkowania transporterów wymuszają konieczność podjęcia problematyki konstrukcji i budowy nowego środka przeprawowego lub modernizacji transportera będącego obecnie na wyposażeniu jednostek inżynieryjnych. Ponadto, w referacie przedstawiono problematykę użycia sił i środków w sytuacjach kryzysowych. Skupiono się nad możliwością wykorzystania pododdziałów Sił Zbrojnych RP w zadaniach niesienia pomocy poszkodowanym w wyniku wystąpienia klęsk żywiołowych. Przedstawiono strukturę jednostek inżynieryjnych wykorzystywanych do zabezpieczenia działań ratowniczo-logistycznych na wypadek sytuacji kryzysowych, w tym klęsk żywiołowych, stawiane im zadania oraz podjęto problematykę ich wyposażenia w sprzęt specjalistyczny.

The complexity of tasks concerning helping victims of natural disasters forces equipping rescue units with logistic means of transport with large carring capacity. One of such means is amphibian tracked transporter PTS that enables evacuation of people and belongings on land and on water. Service-life of these transporters is nearing to an end – hence, there is a necessity to carry out study regarding construction of a new logistic mean of fording or modernization of existing transporter. Moreover, this paper presents the problem of using forces and resources in crisis situations. It is focused on the potential use of units of the Polish Armed Forces during helping victims of disasters. It also presents the structure of engineer battalions, the tasks assigned to them in crisis situation and the issues concerning their specialist equipment.
