As cities become larger and societies become more complicated, the corresponding transportation systems also become more complicated. Thus far, many important transportation models have been investigated and applied to societies. In this work, we analyze a bus transportation model that includes high randomness. By strengthening the viewpoint of the users, the bunching of buses is further explored and considered as “the dumpling bus state,” referring to cases when the next scheduled buses closely run behind a delayed bus for a while. It is described that waiting people are split into winners (people with shorter waiting times) and losers (people with longer waiting times). Waiting time is also analyzed using logistic regression to obtain the probability of people who continue to wait.

The accessibility of regional centers by public transport in a defined area is a very specific problem. Depending on the organization of public transport, there is a potentially related phenomenon – social transport exclusion. The aim of the study is to express the existence of a relationship between public transport and regional development in the rural self-governing region Trnava. At the same time, we identify municipalities – more precisely areas – with reduced transport accessibility in relation to their regional development and we determine the most advantageous means of public transport for the population who does not have the possibility to use a car. The procedure was to use an electronic database of train and bus timetables to obtain information about the studied characteristics for the return journey during the 24 hours of working days (Tuesday). We found that rail and combined transport have better quality in about half of the region’s municipalities. The Pearson correlation coefficient of product of moments indicated that the value of the correlation between the number of points for public transport and points for regional development is only 0.36, and therefore there is no strong connection between them. However, the individual extreme and average values of these indicators and especially their sub-components have shown us that there is a certain dependence between these values. The results show that despite a lower impact on public transport on regional development, it has a more decisive influence, leading to the strengthening of public transport.

This study is aimed at improving the methods of carriage of passengers by urban transport to improve its reliability and efficiency. It can be achieved by forming back-up bus routes within the existing regular route network for servicing mass passenger-flows. This study theoretically substantiates the impact of back-up bus routes inthe current regular route network on the reliability and efficiency of the transport process. Mathematical models of reservation of regular route network and the assessment of the reliability of passenger transport using different reservation schemes are suggested. Methodological recommendations on the formation of passenger traffic on back-up bus routes and cost reduction on its maintenance, by managing the route speed depending on the loading of the city road network, have been developed. Technical and economic evaluation was conducted to the developed methodological toolkit.

The article discusses the issues of bus transport in Malta. There was also presented information on the development of road infrastructure and individual transport. Statistical and technical information relating to organizational and operational solutions has been provided. There are present the fleet of the carrier - Malta Public Transport and the information on the routes served. The article has been illustrated with maps and photographs. The aim of the article is to familiarize the readers with the state of public bus transport in Malta.

Wszystkie te obszary muszą być wspomagane przez system informatyczny. W artykule przedstawiono wymagania jakie musi spełnić taki system oraz zaproponowano jego koncepcję. Szczególny nacisk położono na aspekt bezpieczeństwa i niezawodności systemu.

This article describes the development of extra-urban bus transport in Poland in 1989- 2015. The characteristics includes changes in the number and structure of enterprises operating on the bus transport market, in the volumes of transports carried out, the number and length of transport lines, as well as changes in the number of rolling stock and ongoing operational work. In addition to the statistical picture of the extra-urban bus transport, the article presents the evolution of the regulations governing the operation of extra-urban bus transport and the changes taking place in the structure of the extra-urban bus transport market in 1989-2015.

Prowadzona od wielu lat modernizacja systemu transportu miejskiego w Krakowie, polegająca między innymi na ciągłym unowocześnianiu floty autobusów należących do Miejskiego Przedsiębiorstwa Komunikacyjnego SA oraz Mobilis group Sp. z o.o. Kraków, przyczynia się do ciągłej poprawy usług przewozowych oraz wzrostu ekologiczności taboru. Opisane w artykule wyniki badań nad emisją zanieczyszczeń pyłowo-gazowych do powietrza powodowaną przez flotę autobusów komunikacji miejskiej w latach 2010–2015 wskazują na ciągłą redukcję ilości emitowanych z autobusów zanieczyszczeń, co wpływa na poprawę złej jakości powietrza w Krakowie.

Public transport is crucial for urban mobility. It should be efficient and eco-friendly. This article presents an overview of the most effective urban public transport systems in the world, including the Krakow’s public transport. Upgrading of the urban transport system in Krakow which has been carried for many years is based on the continuous modernization of the fleet of buses belonging to the Miejskie Przedsiębiorstwo Komunikacyjne SA (Municipal Transport Company) and Mobilis group Sp. z o.o. Krakow, contributes with the continuous improvement of transport services and the growth of the environmental performance of the rolling stock. Described in this article the results of research on dust-gas emissions into the air caused by a fleet of public transport buses in the period 2010–2015, show continuous reduction in the quantity of emitted with buses of pollution, resulted with improvement of the air quality in Krakow which still is considered as poor.

Zidentyfikowano kluczowe wskaźniki w zakresie BRT. Wdrożenie BRT połączone jest z osiąganiem istotnych korzyści, do których należą: szybkość realizacji inwestycji na etapie projektowania i wykonawstwa, w porównaniu z innymi rodzajami transportu, stosunkowo niskie koszty inwestycji i koszty eksploatacji, a także możliwość połączenia z już istniejącą siecią drogową, co wykazano w publikacji.

Rynek komunikacji publicznej w miastach Polski charakteryzuje się szeregiem daleko idących przeobrażeń, zwłaszcza związanych z problemami rozwoju komunikacji publicznej z jednej oraz dynamiczną ekspansją przewoźników prywatnych z drugiej strony. Bardzo dobrym przykładem tych zmian, ze względu na ich skalę i tempo, stanowi miasto Wałbrzych. Zmiany były efektem upadku Przedsiębiorstwa Komunikacji Samochodowej, a następnie Miejskiego Przedsiębiorstwa Komunikacyjnego. W konsekwencji nowi, prywatni przewoźnicy stali się podstawowym ogniwem komunikacji publicznej w mieście, co niesie za sobą szereg pozytywnych, jak i negatywnych aspektów. Celem artykułu jest analiza i ocena funkcjonowania wałbrzyskiego, lokalnego systemu komunikacji autobusowej w aspekcie organizacyjnym i przestrzenno-ilościowym. W artykule zaprezentowano schemat funkcjonowania wałbrzyskiego modelu komunikacji publicznej oraz przeprowadzono analizę ilościową. Skupiono się on przede wszystkim na zbadaniu struktury przewoźników, kierunków i natężeń kursów przez nich wykonywanych oraz identyfikacji powiązań między tymi kierunkami a wybranymi czynnikami społeczno-ekonomicznymi. Pozwoli to na identyfikację charakterystycznych cech kształtującego się systemu komunikacji publicznej, oceny jego zalet i wad, a także umiejscowienie go w kontekście innych systemów. Należy przy tym podkreślić, iż jakkolwiek praca dotyczy miasta Wałbrzych, to opisane w niej zjawiska z różnym natężeniem występują w skali całego kraju.

Market of public transport in Polish cities is characterized by many significant transformations, especially connected with development problems and dynamic expansion of private carriers. Because of the scale and rate of changes Wałbrzych is one of the best examples. The changes have generally been connected with the fall of urban transport operator. Consequently new, private carriers have become basic component of public transport in the city, which has caused many, positive and negative effects. The aim of the article is the analysis and evaluation of the activity of local bus transport system, especially with reference to the organization and spatial aspects. In the article authors presented the scheme of functioning of regional bus network and quantitative analysis (structure of carriers, destinations and links between spatial structure and local social-demographic factors. That allows to identify characteristic features of public transport system and to evaluate advantages and weaknesses facets. It must be admitted that although the article describes situation in Wałbrzych presented here phenomena are appeared in different scale in the whole country.

The article answers to a question how long time will take to ride and what its cost will be on chosen routes, if we decide to travel: by train, bus, passenger cars or plane. In the article a current communication situation in Poland regarding connections by means of public transport from Warsaw to major Polish cities was discussed. At present in rail services Tanie Linie Kolejowe (TLK), Inter City (IC) and Inter Regio (IR) compete against each other. In bus transports : PKS, Polski Bus, Polbus, Polonus, Neobuscompete against each other. In rail services the competition was slightly strengthen in the middle of December of last year by implementing ninePrendolino trains which run between Warsaw and Cracow, Katowice, Tricity and Wrocław. Also air carriers – PLL the Flight and Ryanair compete with them.

Przekształcenia, jakie nastąpiły w transporcie autobusowym w Polsce po roku 1989, miały wpływ na większość aspektów dotyczących funkcjonowania tego rodzaju transportu w przestrzeni społeczno-gospodarczej kraju. Zmiany te nie ominęły również infrastruktury związanej z odprawą podróżnych, których liczba zauważalnie wzrasta w ostatnich latach. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest przedstawienie, na przykładzie siedmiu wybranych miast położonych w województwie dolnośląskim, przekształceń infrastruktury oraz jej stanu obecnego. Analiza ma charakter studium przypadków, które ukazują podobieństwa oraz różnice w tym obszarze, jakie wystąpiły i nadal mają miejsce w poszczególnych miejscowościach. Autor zwraca uwagę także na: wyposażenie głównych punktów obsługi podróżnych w elementy poprawiające ich funkcjonalność i komfort podróżnych, rozmieszczenie opisywanej infrastruktury w przestrzeni miejskiej oraz jej powiązania z innymi ważnymi, z punktu widzenia pasażerów, obiektami. Przeprowadzone badania potwierdzają tezę o silnych przekształceniach infrastruktury służącej odprawie autobusów w wybranych miastach dolnośląskich. Charakterystyczną cechą jest zróżnicowanie tych procesów w poszczególnych miejscowościach. Są one uzależnione od różnych lokalnych czynników. W wielu miejscowościach obserwowana jest podobna tendencja do funkcjonowania na ich obszarze kilku punktów, w których następuje odprawa podróżnych w transporcie autobusowym. Zauważalna jest także degradacja i przekształcenia własnościowe dawnych dworców autobusowych, działających w innych uwarunkowaniach społeczno-gospodarczych. Powyższe zjawiska są w dużej mierze następstwem liberalizacji oraz deregulacji, jaka nastąpiła w transporcie autobusowym w Polsce po 1989 roku.

The changes in bus transportation in Poland after 1989 have impacted most aspects associated with the functioning of this type of transportation in the socio-economic sphere of Poland. The changes have referred also to the infrastructure intended for check-in of passengers which number has been growing noticeably in recent and its current state, on the example of 7 selected cities of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. The analysis is a case study presenting similarities and differences referring to this area that have occurred and still are typical in discussed cities. Author is focused also on: equipment of the main service points for travelers with elements improving their functionality and travelers’ comfort, location of this infrastructure within the city boundaries, as well as its connection with other objects important for passengers. Conducted studies confirm the thesis of strong changes of the infrastructure devoted for bus passengers’ check-in in selected cities of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. A distinctive feature is diversification of these processes in different cities. The processes are dependent on local factors. The similarities include the tendency, occurring in many cities and towns, that in the given area there are several bus stops operating. Also degradation and transformation of old bus terminals functioning in different socio-economic conditions – is observable. The abovementioned phenomena are generally consequences of the liberalisation and deregulation which has occurred in the bus transportation in Poland after 1989.

Jednym z rozwiązań jest system eBooking BUS, który udostępnia firmom przewozowym możliwość elektronicznego powiadamiania Służby Celnej o planowanym przekroczeniu granicy przez autobusy. W artykule przedstawiono informacje dotyczącego tego usprawnienia, którego celem jest skrócenie czasu odprawy autokarów.

In recent years, public administration implementing more and more electronic services. The Customs Service is one of the leaders in introducing e-services. One solution is to eBooking BUS system, which provides transport companies for electronic notification of the Customs Service of the planned crossing of the border by bus. The article presents information on the improvements, the aim of which is to shorten the clearance time coaches.

W artykule przedstawiono analizę wskaźnikową kosztów funkcjonowania jednego z przewoźników świadczącego usługi w zakresie regularnego, publicznego transportu autobusowego głównie na terenie powiatu poznańskiego, tj. Kórnickiego Przedsiębiorstwa Autobusowego Kombus Spółka z o.o. Pod uwagę wzięto 5-cio letni przedział czasowy, tj. lata 2008-2012. W analizie kosztów uwzględniono szereg składników, w tym: wynagrodzenia, koszty zużycia materiałów i energii, amortyzację, podatki i opłaty. Koszty odniesiono do wykonanej pracy przewozowej przez tabor przedsiębiorstwa. To z kolei pozwoliło na wyznaczenie wielkości składników kosztowych wpływających na cenę finalną wozokilometra autobusu. Autorzy wyznaczyli zarówno dla kosztu całkowitego wozokilometra, jak i poszczególnych jego składników funkcje trendu wraz ze współczynnikami determinacji. Na podstawie danych z analizowanego okresu oszacowano wielkości kosztów dla roku 2013 i 2014.

This paper presents ratio analysis of the operating costs of Kombus Ltd.(KPA Kombus Spolka z o.o.), one of the transport companies providing services of a regular and public bus transport, spread on the area of Poznań County. The analysis covers a five-year period, i.e. 2008-2012. A number of ratios are considered in the cost analysis, including salaries, materials, energy costs, depreciation, taxes and fees. The costs are related to the transport volume carried out by the company’s fleet. It allows to define the values of costs factors influencing on the final cost of vehicle-kilometer for the total costs of vehicle-kilometer as well as for its components. The authors have defined the trend functions with determination coefficients. Based on the data obtained for the given period, the cost values for 2013 and 2014 have been estimated.
