The paper presents noise measurements in low-resistance photodetectors using a crosscorrelation-based transimpedance amplifier. Such measurements usually apply a transimpedance amplifier design to provide a current fluctuation amplification. In the case of low-resistance sources, the measurement system causes additional relevant system noise which can be higher than noise generated in a tested detector. It mainly comes from the equivalent input voltage noise of the transimpedance amplifier. In this work, the unique circuit and a three-step procedure were used to reduce the floor noise, covering the measured infrared detector noise, mainly when operating with no-bias or low-bias voltage. The modified circuit and procedure to measure the noise of unbiased and biased detectors characterized by resistances much lower than 100 Ω were presented. Under low biases, the reference low-resistance resistors tested the measurement system operation and techniques. After the system verification, noise characteristics in low-resistance InAs and InAsSb infrared detectors were also measured.

Content available remote Apparatus “Spark” for luminescent and electrochemiluminescent measurements
EN
The article is devoted to the development of the apparatus “Spark” for integration a photodetector with a current output in a measurement system. Developed apparatus “Spark” includes a current-to-voltage converter, an output filter, and a source of a high voltage, that are sufficient to combine a photomultiplier tube with a different analytical instrumentation. Use of apparatus “Spark” with electrochemical station CHI 800C CH Instrument and photomultiplier tube CR-105 by Hamamatsu Photonics is shown by over an electrochemiluminescent assay of a test solution.

Content available remote Regulated common-gate TIA with noise improvement for radiation detectors
EN
A Transimpedance Amplifier (TIA) is a device which performs current-voltage conversion and signal shaping. The most commonly used solution is an Avalanche Photo-Diode (APD) as radiation detector with a feedback TIA. Recently, Silicon Photo-Multipliers (SiPMs), have proven to be good alternatives. The main objective in this paper is to show, evaluate and compare the behavior of a regulated common-gate (RCG) TIA when the light sensitive device is an APD or a SiPM. We will also present two alternative circuits based on the RCG topology. The first can be resumed to the insertion of a transistor, responsible for an improvement in the output noise response of the TIA. This solution proves itself to be a good alternative, since it will improve the Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) of the circuit by around 3 dB, with negligible penalty in consumption (only 2%). The second alternative will be a proposed differential version of the RCG topology, in which the first solution will be included. These two latter solutions will only be tested with a SiPM at the input. We will also study the RCG topology in a RF front-end, providing there is a passive mixer at the TIA’s input. The proposed circuits are simulated with standard CMOS technology (UMC 130 nm), from a 1.2 V supply.

Content available remote Różnicowy układ pracy fotodetektora promieniowania optycznego
PL
W publikacji przedstawiono koncepcję różnicowego układu pracy fotodetektora półprzewodnikowego. Zaproponowano nową strukturę układu zawierającą: jeden lub dwa fotodetektory, dwa wzmacniacze transimpedancyjne oraz różnicowy wzmacniacz wyjściowy. Proponowane rozwiązanie układu detekcji promieniowania jest bardziej czułe i mniej wrażliwe na zakłócenia niż pojedyńczy konwerter prąd - napięcie. W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań eksperymentalnych oraz wskazówki dotyczące rozwiązań aplikacyjnych.

This paper describes a differential detection circuit of optical radiation. The circuit contains: one or two silicon photodetectors, two transimpedance amplifiers and output differential amplifier. This solution of light detection is more sensitive and less susceptible to EMD than single transimpedance amplifier. The measurement results of the circuit are presented. At the final part the design recommendations are included.
