This article shows how the Ukrainian drama of 2022-2023 captured anthropological realities, symbolic transgressions of time, space, and cartographic perception of Ukrainian cities that were destroyed and where the genocide of the Ukrainian people was committed and for those cities Russia's full-scale aggression became an impetus for resistance and new self-organisation. Therefore, this artistic array of texts is valuable material for anthropological studies on the city in the twenty-first-century wars.

Marine transgressions-regressions have profoundly shaped marginal seas following global sea-level fluctuations driven by climate change. This study on a sedimentary core profile SO219/31-4 from the Beibu Gulf, northwestern South China Sea (SCS), reveals information about paleoenvironment, paleoceanography and paleoclimate changes through fossil diatom assemblages and grain size distributions during the last ca. 12900 cal. yr. BP. Eight local diatom assemblage zones were distinguished and assigned to paleoenvironmental fluctuations recording sea-level and depositional environment changes in eight stages, ca. 12900–11700 (stage 1), ca. 11700–9500 (stage 2), ca. 9500–7200 (stage 3), ca. 7200–5800 (stage 4), ca. 5800–3800 (stage 5), ca. 3800–2400 (stage 6), ca. 2400–800 (stage 7) and ca. 800–0 (stage 8), cal. yr. BP. After the low sea level of stage 1 within the last deglaciation, rapid increases in sea level in stages 2 and 3 were recorded as meltwater events pulse-1B and pulse-1C resulting in marine transgression rates of ca. 16 m/kyr and 8 m/kyr, respectively. The high sea level, above the present level, in stages 4 and 5, in the Middle Holocene Climatic Optimum period, was clearly documented by more significant open sea/tropical diatom species and coastal planktonic species percentages, respectively. The late Holocene regression of sea levels was marked by a pronounced reversion of diatom taphocoenosis, responding to neoglacial climate. Fossil diatom assemblages outlined responded to paleoclimate of global warming in the deglacial and early Holocene. This study provides additional insights into the late Pleistocene and Post-glacial history of a tropical-subtropical shallow water gulf, in the NW-SCS.

Available reconstructions of Jurassic global sea level changes differ and are in need of an update. New stratigraphical charts and palaeogeographical developments for a number of large continental blocks or their portions of these (e.g., Germany, India, northeast Africa, northwest Australia, the Russian Platform and western Siberia) reveal regional long-term shoreline shifts (i.e., transgressions and regressions) during the Bajocian Stage (168.3–170.3 Ma). A comparison of these allows to document only a single coherent feature, namely the earliest Bajocian transgression, in the majority of the continental blocks considered. Undoubtedly, this event was triggered by a eustatic rise. However, long-term shoreline shifts were either weak to absent or differed between the blocks during almost the entire Bajocian, thus providing evidence of the apparent stability of global sea level and the importance of regional tectonic activity as a control mechanism on particular transgressions and regressions. Interestingly, it appears that the earliest Bajocian eustatic rise was a constituent of a long-term eustatic pattern; the nature of this event has yet to be fully understood. Generally, the findings presented here are in better agreement with Anthony Hallam’s view of Jurassic eustasy and question some other global sea level reconstructions.

Sedimentary features of the Cambrian-age succession transected in seven borehole cores sited in the Podlasie region document vertical and lateral variations of shallow-marine sedimentary facies, deposited at the rifted western margin of the Baltica Palaeocontinent. The boreholes are distributed along two lines of cross-section (E–W and NE–SW) running roughly perpendicular to the margin of the palaeocontinent. The easternmost borehole represents a proximal setting located on a relatively stable, shallow basement in the east; the remaining boreholes document conditions of deposition in the subsiding shallow-marine basin, extending towards the SW. Fourteen sedimentary facies defined on the basis of their lithological and sedimentary features are interpreted in terms of the sedimentary environments they represent. Strata deposited upon the stable craton in the east document a stratigraphically condensed succession of proximal facies, 240 m thick, whereas a sequence three times thicker is positioned distally, 170 km to the west. Facies associations in the proximal section represent the lower to upper shoreface in the lower part of the section and evolve upwards to the intermediate shoreface. Facies complexes in the remaining, intermediate and distal areas form a symmetrical megasequence, composed of a positive (i.e., fining-upwards – FU) transgressive sequence, overlain by a negative (coarsening-upwards – CU) regressive sequence. The vertical arrangement of the sedimentary subenvironments during the transgression indicates a tidally influenced shoreline followed by oscillations between the swash zone, the upper, intermediate and lower shoreface, and the offshore. The symmetry of the megasequences and the rhythmic pattern of the component facies complexes indicate that the intensity of supply in the terrigenous material and the efficiency of its reworking and redistribution within the basin were similar during the transgression and the regression. The facies types and variations within the basal part of the succession reflect syndepositional movements of tectonic blocks parallel to the rifted basin margin. Differences in total thickness and facies associations between the two lines of cross-section approximately perpendicular to the basin margin indicate that sedimentation was also influenced by a synsedimentary hinge fault, extending in a WSW–ENE direction.

Content available Kontestując granice. O transgresji w architekturze
PL
The Architecture of Transgression, wydaną w ramach prestiżowego czasopisma AD - Architectural Design).
EN
The rationale behind the title lies in dynamic changes taking place in modern architectural creations, which are implemented in forms that could not be clearly assigned - located on the border of disciplines, contesting the existing boundaries. The central premise of the work is the thesis that transgression in architecture opens up new opportunities for architectural practice, provoking to redefine the concept of architecture and the role of the architect. This main working assumption has been inspired by contemporary architectural practices as well as recent scientific publications on transgression in architecture (e.g. The Architecture of Transgression, published in the prestigious magazine AD - Architectural Design). The article is intended to encourage reflection, and more importantly to give rise to future scientific discussions on the issue of transgression in contemporary architectural work.

PL

Changing trends in the army for several years, and recently - a fundamental change, as related to the reform of the structures of command and control system - is a transgression (as it has been defined by Joseph Kozielecki). In this contest it is implied a necessity of subjective experience of the world to its real ever-changing character. Article aims to show the types of response to change top commanders exhibit in the army. Analysis is presented showing the ratio of the transgression in the context adjusted by the personality traits and narrative about the changes in the organization, of which they are the actors, and sometimes creators.
EN
In this article the author notes, that the development according to Joseph Kozielecki depends on the fact, that man transcends natural, symbolic, social borders, associated with his own inner world, in order to satisfy own needs. He aims to improve the quality of life, and also tries to preserve the natural environment in possibly best condition. This understanding of the concept of development approaches psychologist‘s attitude to the idea of sustainable development, which rests on three pillars: environmental, economic and social. One of the most important categories for understanding development and sustainability issues is the value of life, which is endangered by destructive transgressions as destructive actions contributing to the destruction of natural phenomena, and also causing psychopatic changes in the human personality. Sofronic transgressions are designed, inter alia, to control actions (prudence, moderation, inner discipline, the ability to find a compromise). To be equal to the value of life a transgressive man must be aware of his own dignity.

The basal Zechstein succession in SW Poland is dominated by breccias and/or conglomerates or extraclast-bearing bioclastic limestones, which were deposited during rapid flooding of the pre-existing intracontinental basin in the early Lopingian (Late Permian). Of these, the boulder-cobble breccias and conglomerates are interpreted as deposited in a rocky shore-zone where density flows and upwelling prevailed. The breccias gradually pass up into bryozoan (or other bioclastics) grainstones. The matrix-supported breccias were deposited as large extraclasts and blocks of Carboniferous rock were rolled down or detached from a cliff and were then either embedded into a carbonate sand or formed a framework supplying voids that could be colonized by tubular encrusting foraminifers. These foraminifers abound in all basal Zechstein facies (except in the debris-flow deposits) and are attributed to Palaeonubecularia. The associated faunas include other foraminifers (uniserial and hemigordiopsids), bryozoans, brachiopods, bivalves, gastropods, and microbial deposits. The prolific growth of tubular encrusting foraminifers has resulted from nutrient supply from the basin by upwelling. Botryoidal aragonite cements (also interpreted as due to upwelling) also characterize the basal Zechstein strata, although they were previously reported only from the upper Zechstein Limestone. The ẟI3C values of the basal Zechstein deposits show small variation and oscillated around 4.0%o, suggesting that these deposits are younger than the Kupferschiefer.

Nummulites-Discocyclina bioclastic packstone and Discocyclina rudstone occur in the transgressive sequence of the Middle–Upper Eocene deposits in the Tatra Mts. The succession of the studied facies is a direct response to a rapid environmental change, related to progressive deepening. Facies transition from Nummulites- Discocyclina bioclastic packstone of proximal mid-ramp to Discocylina rudstone of distal mid- and outer-ramp is an exemplary record of a deposition during deepening conditions. Increasing of diversity of the genus Discocyclina, decreasing of diversity of other foraminifera up the section and vertical variation of orthophragminid mor- photypes from the ovate- through saddle- to the disc-shaped tests are related to deepening and shadowing of the depositional environment.

The Tanais Palaeobay was located in the northern periphery of the eastern Paratethys Sea during the Late Miocene. New data from the Safianovo section (Rostov Dome, South-West of Russia) confirm that skeletal limestones (coquinites) of the Merzhanovskaja Formation belong to the Congeria (Andrusoviconcha) amygdaloides navicula Zone of the upper Upper Maeotian (the Maeotian is a regional chronostratigraphic unit of the Upper Miocene). Correlation of reference sections of these Upper Maeotian deposits within the Rostov Dome results in pattern of the palaeobay transgression, which was punctuated. The relative importance of local and global controls on this trangsression is not yet clear.

The deposits of the Niżniów Formation, exposed around Niżniów, mainly on the banks of Dnister River, accumulated in the most proximal, marginal position of the latest Jurassic-earliest Cretaceous epicontinental basin on the SW margin of the East European Platform. The Niżniów Formation directly onlaps a Palaeozoic substrate and consists of transgressive cliff-derived conglomerates, and sandstones and marls which pass laterally into shallow marine carbonates: mainly biomicrites, oncomicrites, and pelmicrites with an abundant benthic fauna dominated by nerineid gastropods. The thickness of the formation in the area studied ranges from 0 to more than 20 metres and was controlled bymorphology of the pre-transgression substrate (mainly built of Devonian clastic rocks), synsedimentary fault tectonics and pre-mid-Albian erosion. The age of the Niżniów Formation can be determined, on the evidence of benthic foraminifers encountered in thin sections, as most probably late Tithonian-early Berriasian.

EN
In the recent decade a number of data of different investigations (pollen, diatom, molluscs analysis, lithological investigations, dating by methods of absolute geochronology, etc.) have been collected during the large-scale geological mapping of Lithuanian Maritime region (Lithuanian Coast). The results of investigations confirmed that there were three Littorina Sea transgressions at the Lithuanian Coast: the first manifested approximately in 8500-7800 conventional 14C years BP, the second (maximal) - in 6200-5900 and the third - in 5300-4000 conv. 14C years BP. The Post-Littorina Sea maximum was in about 3600-3400 conv. 14C years BP. The Littorina Sea shoreline displacement curves were carried out. The present-day positions of shorelines of the Littorina Sea as well as other Baltic basins are displaced in different altitudes in separate parts of the Lithuanian Coast due to oscillatory neotectonic movements of Earth crust blocks during Late Glacial and Holocene.

We dated Holocene and Late Pleistocene mollusc shells collected from coastal sediments of the Caspian, Barents, White and Black Seas by means of both a modified 230Th/U method and the radiocarbon method. Essence of the modification is the removal of the surface (about 1/3 of the weight) of the mollusc shells by nitric acid as it may contain adsorbed detrital 232Th and 230Th. The 230Th/U dates of the inner part of the shells do not require detrital correction with the 232Th activity and well agree with the corresponding reservoir-corrected and calibrated 14C ages of mollusc shells with ages between 1300 and 13,500 BP. We tested the modified 230Th/U method on thick-walled and well-preserved mollusc shells from the transgression sediments of the Barentz, White and Black Seas derived during the Mikulino Interglacial (MIS 5e) and the Early Valday Glaciation (MIS 5c). The 230Th/U ages of the inner part of the shells from the Boreal (Eem) transgression sediments of the Barentz and White Seas ranged from 86 to 114 ka and those from the Karangat (Eem) transgression in the Black Sea (Maly Kut and Eltigen sections) from 95 to 115 ka. The new 230Th/U dates of the shells from the section Eltigen ranged from 100 to 125 ka.

In the upper Tremadoc, in the Kielce region of the Holy Cross Mountains, siltstones and fine-grained sandstones are interbedded with chalcedonites and claystones. The deposits were probably laid down when the late Tremadoc transgression reached its maximum. Storm currents influenced deposition at times while, during calm periods, sedimentation of chalcedonites, clayey cherts and clays took place. Weak bottom currents affected the deposition of siliceous layers. The deposits accumulated on a distal shelf.
