Współcześnie wiele realizowanych procesów rewitalizacji obszarów miejskich obejmuje tereny położone nad wodą. Dotyczy to w szczególności obszarów poprzemysłowych, które ze względu na pełnione funkcje często powiązane były z sieciami rzek i kanałów. Prowadząc analizy tego typu działań można zauważyć, że w ostatnim czasie charakterystyczne dla nich stają się modyfi kacje planów obszarów wodnych i form ich granic [Nyka 2013]. Przeobrażenia takie dotyczą niejednokrotnie obszarów znacznych powierzchni, stanowiących fragmenty centralnych części miast. Zadać wiec można pytanie, czy poza podniesieniem atrakcyjności przestrzeni publicznych na przekształcanych terenach, formowanie nowych obrysów lądu i wody służyć może dodatkowym celom. Przeprowadzone badania miały na celu wykazanie, że odpowiednie przeprowadzenie takich działań podnosi efektywność procesów rewitalizacji przestrzeni miejskich [Burda 2015].

The article discusses the transformations of boundaries between land and water as an important element of revitalization processes. Analyzing a number of such projects which had been realized recently, it can be seen that the modification of water area plans and the form of their borders are characteristic and important elements to include in the development strategies for many cities. Particularly important for research are those strategies that concern the transformations of postindustrial areas. As it turns out, such interventions are not only important for compositional and functional solutions but they also play an important role in achieving the expected results of transformations of these areas. These interventions deserve special attention because of their positive impact on neighborhood structures. The article shows that the conversions of wharves contours based on the introduction of waterbodies in land areas and the creation of new land in areas previously underwater allows diversified links in the public spaces system. It also allows development of more coherent and complex networks of ecological and landscape systems. Shaping the new forms of land and water connections also helps to achieve innovative architectural solutions. Finally, due to the still more bold attempts to shape new forms of water areas borders, the relationships between urban structures and water can be strengthened.
