The problems of control volume method (CVM) application in the numerical modeling of thermal processes proceeding in a system casting-mould are discussed (a 2D problem is taken into account).The shape of control volumes (Thiessen polygons) assures the good approximation of heat transfer processes proceeding in domain considered. In the final part of the paper the example of computation is shown.

W pracy przedstawiono definicję, cel i zadania stojące przed inżynierią środowiska jako techniczną dyscypliną naukową. Na tym tle wskazano na znaczenie procesów przenoszenia pędu, ciepła i masy w dalszym rozwoju tej dyscypliny naukowej.

The definition of environmental engineering and its goals as a technical scientific discipline are given in the study. Against this background the importance of momentum, heat and mass transfer processes in further development of this scientific field is mentioned.
