Operational problems of tramway infrastructure in sharp curves

Elements of the tramway track that require special attention in the design and maintenance of the tramway infrastructure are sharp curves (curves with small radii). In such places, there are a number of unfavourable operational problems, which are discussed in the article below. It describes the characteristics of such geometric elements and analyses the interaction of the wheel-rail system. Moreover, the most important operational problems are presented, such as the wear of wheels and tramway rails, the buckling of the rails, and noise and vibrations occurring during the passage of the tram. Methods of reducing unfavourable phenomena occurring on curves in the tramway infrastructure were also highlighted.

W artykule omówiono podstawowe problemy szeroko rozumianej infrastruktury tramwajowej, które wpływają na poziom bezpieczeństwa. Wskazano kierunki i przykłady działań w zakresie poprawy bezpieczeństwa w ruchu tramwajowym. Za konieczne uznano projektowanie i ciągły rozwój rozwiązań infrastrukturalnych w sposób uwzględniający wymogi bezpieczeństwa ruchu drogowego.

In this article, we discuss the safety-related problems of the tram transit infrastructure. We point out the directions to improve safety in tramway transportation. We also show the examples of actions aimed at safety improvement. Design and continuous development of infrastructure solutions have been deemed necessary to take account of traffic safety requirements.

Analysis of dynamic response of tramway on tracks with varying level of maintenance

The paper presents feature of geometric track irregularities occurring on tram infrastructure with varying levels of maintenance and their influence on vehicle’s dynamic response. Measurements of vehicle’s model masses accelerations were conducted during rides on chosen track sections projecting real geometry. Frequency characteristics of vibration accelerations obtained from simulation and spectra of measured track irregularities were shown and compared to find the relationship between them.

W artykule opisano charakter nierówności geometrycznych nawierzchni występujących na odcinkach miejskiej infrastruktury szynowej o różnym stopniu wyeksploatowania oraz ich wpływ na odpowiedź dynamiczną pojazdu. Dokonano pomiarów przyspieszeń drgań mas modelu tramwaju niskopodłogowego na wybranych odcinkach toru o rzeczywistej geometrii. Przedstawiono charakterystyki częstotliwościowe pomiarów przyspieszeń drgań z badań symulacyjnych oraz zmierzonych nierówności, a następnie poddano je konfrontacji i ukazano zależność między nimi.
