A method and application to identify reasons for decreasing vehicles’ driving speed in cities

Vehicle onboard travel planning systems have been developed in recent years. Since the development of GPS-based devices equipped with digital mapping applications for many vehicles, route planning has become easier and more convenient for drivers. Although such systems are used by drivers, for delivery or courier companies, it is especially important to provide a high-quality service, which involves the timely delivery of goods. Traffic management authorities are also interested in acquiring data on road and traffic conditions to verify the effectiveness and smoothness of the flow of vehicles. This paper proposes a method for traffic data collection and an application for recording data of variable factors having impact on a vehicle speed in cities and agglomerations. Data acquisition and identification of factors having impact on reduction of vehicle speed in the cities has been presented for a case study of Gliwice. The results can be useful for traffic management authorities, municipal traffic, road planning departments and mobile apps designers.

W artykule zaprezentowano zaobserwowane zależności między zmiennymi dotyczącymi ruchu drogowego, warunków środowiskowych, a poziomem hałasu drogowego. W analizach wykorzystano trzymiesięczny zbiór danych, zgromadzonych w Kielcach, podczas pomiarów ciągłych, przy użyciu stacjonarnych rejestratorów poziomu hałasu i warunków środowiskowych. Eksploracja dostępnych danych pozwoliła na pozyskanie niezbędnej wiedzy dotyczącej istnienia współzależności, ich siły oraz jej istotności pomiędzy wspomnianymi czynnikami ruchowo-akustyczno-środowiskowymi. Ponadto zaproponowano model matematyczny opisujący poziom prognozowanego hałasu drogowego, którego estymatorami, poza wielkościami związanymi z ruchem, są także wartości charakteryzujące czynniki meteorologiczne.

The article is to present the relationships between variables observed on traffic, environmental conditions, and the traffic noise. Three-month of continuous measurements data set was used in the analysis. The measurement device was stationary system allowing to collect noise and environmental conditions data. Exploration in available data gave the possibility to enhance the necessary knowledge about correlations and their significance and the relationship between the factors. Moreover, a mathematical model was proposed that describes the forecast level of the traffic noise. Despite of the factors values associated with the traffic, the meteorological values in the estimators of the model were used.

W referacie przedstawiono uzasadnienie wyboru powiatów ziemskich do analiz bezpieczeństwa ruchu drogowego (brd). Przedstawiono główne miary brd i czynniki wpływające na brd. Wskazano główne problemy brd: nadmierna prędkość, alkohol i infrastruktura drogowa oraz grupy podwyższonego ryzyka : piesi, dzieci, młodzi kierowcy. Sformułowano również kierunki dalszych działań.

This paper presents reason to choice rural districts to analysis of road traffic safety. Main measures and factors have been described. Main problems: speed, alcohol, road infrastructure and groups of risk: pedestrians, child and young drivers have been described. The directions of next research and analysis have been presented too.
