Active carbons impregnated with zinc acetate are used as catalysts of vinyl acetate synthesis from acetylene and acetic acid. The present paper aims at finding out whether the carbon obtained after removing active salt of vinyl acetate synthesis can be used as a sorbent in the process of removing trichloromethane and xylene from the aqueous solutions. The obtained results indicate that studied active carbons display intensive sorptive properties as regards trichloromethane and m-xylene in aqueous solutions. The zinc left over on the surface does not affect the sorption of m-xylene and even favours the sorption of trichloromethane.
