Na Dolnym Śląsku zbudowano pod koniec XIX wieku wiele stalowych zbiorników wieżowych dla potrzeb sieci wodociągowych. W artykule zaprezentowano jeden z nich, który jest nadal eksploatowany – od 135 lat – i jest jednym z najstarszych obiektów stalowych o konstrukcji powłokowej w Europie. Kolejne stalowe konstrukcje powłokowe, powstałe na Dolnym Śląsku na początku lat 30. XX wieku, to 4 duże baterie silosów do magazynowania zboża, które są pierwszymi stalowymi silosami na świecie eksploatowanymi do tej pory bez zakłóceń. Opisano nowatorskie konstrukcje tych silosów oraz oceniono ich trwałość eksploatacyjną. Oprócz niezwykłej wartości historycznej prezentowane konstrukcje zbiorników i silosów mają swoją wartość jako poligon doświadczalny do analiz odporności korozyjnej i trwałości eksploatacyjnej stalowych konstrukcji budowlanych. Losy tych konstrukcji zależą przede wszystkim od jakości projektu i wykonawstwa oraz warunków eksploatacji, co wykazano na przykładzie zaprezentowanych zbiorników i silosów.

In Lower Silesia, many steel tower reservoirs were built at the end of the 19th century for water supply networks. The article presents one of them, which is still in operation for 135 years and is one of the oldest steel buildings having a steel shell structure in Europe. Another steel shell structures, created in Lower Silesia at the early thirties of the 20th century, are 4 large grain storage silo batteries, which are the first steel silos in the world and have been operated without disturbances so far. Innovative constructions of these silos were described and their service life evaluated. In addition to their extraordinary historical value, the presented tank and silo constructions have their value as an experimental base for the analysis of corrosion resistance and service life of steel building structures. The fate of these structures depends primarily on the quality of design and workmanship and operating conditions, as shown by the example of the tanks and silos presented.
