Content available remote Analysis of the width of protection zone near a water supply network
EN
A protection zone near the water supply network belongs to the proposals of limiting negative results of potential breakages of buried water pipes. Water leaking from a damaged pipe can create swallow holes or hollows, dangerous especially in the urban areas. The proposed zone is an area on the soil surface along a buried water network, where the outflow of water could be expected after a potential failure of the pipe. The infrastructure in this zone should be carefully planned to limit the social, economic and environmental costs in the case of leakage. The investigations included laboratory tests of a buried water pipe breakage for different cases of leak areas and values of hydraulic pressure head in a pipe as well as analysis of the obtained results and determination of a protection zone for the investigated cases on the basis of tolerance limits. The calculated values of the zone width (5 m if operating pressure is lower than 0.4 MPa, and 7 m otherwise) occurred high, mainly because of the high dispersion of the laboratory tests results. Moreover, we recommended the values of tolerance level to be assumed in calculations.

Measurement data obtained from Weigh-in-Motion systems support protection of road pavements from the adverse phenomenon of vehicle overloading. For this protection to be effective, WIM systems must be accurate and obtain a certificate of metrological legalization. Unfortunately there is no legal standard for accuracy assessment of Weigh-in-Motion (WIM) systems. Due to the international range of road transport, it is necessary to standardize methods and criteria applied for assessing such systems’ accuracy. In our paper we present two methods of determining accuracy of WIM systems. Both are based on the population of weighing errors determined experimentally during system testing. The first method is called a reliability characteristic and was developed by the authors. The second method is based on determining boundaries of the tolerance interval for weighing errors. Properties of both methods were assessed on the basis of simulation studies as well as experimental results obtained from a 16-sensor WIM system.

Tematyka referatu dotyczy problemów metrologicznych występujących w wieloogniskowych badaniach wzrokowych potencjałów wywołanych (M-VEP) oraz korzyści diagnostycznych wynikających z przeprowadzania tych badań. Przedstawione w referacie wyniki dotyczą rzeczywistych przebiegów M-VEP. Porównano wyniki uzyskiwane w badaniach M-VEP i w badaniach perymetrycznych. Zilustrowano występujące problemy, wskazując w szczególności na wpływ takich czynników jak odpowiednia korekcja wady wzroku, zapewnienie właściwej pozycji podczas badania oraz znaczny rozrzut wyników powstający wskutek tzw. fiksacji oka.

The paper deals with metrological problems connected with multifocal visual evoked potentials (M-VEP) and their diagnostic benefits. The presented results concern some real M-VEP signals which were acquired. Comparison of results obtained during M-VEP examinations with perimeter examinations has been made. The problems to be occurred have been illustrated with special focus on proper correction of sight defects, right position of patients during examination, and significant dispersion of results caused by the so-called eye fixation.
