The paper deals with ceria-zirconia supported cobalt catalysts in NO reduction by toluene. Catalysts were characterized by XRD and H2-TPR. The activity and temperature window for deNOx reaction was being observed during temperature programmed deNOx reaction (TPSR) in the presence of toluene. Catalytic tests performed in TPSR mode revealed that deNOx reaction on CeZrO? occurs from 250 to 380°C. nevertheless the addition of cobalt lowers these temperatures by 50°C. NOx reduction, starting above 200°C. was accompanied by total oxidation of toluene. Catalytic tests performed in stationary conditions did not prove good activity of Co/CZ in C7H8-SCR of NO however, they were found to be good oxidants of used hydrocarbon.
Co/CeZr02 catalyst was used in the catalytic partial oxidation (POX) of toluene- applied as a model compound of some tar contained in the products of the coal or biomass gasification. Catalytic tests were carried out in TPSR mode and in stationary conditions. It was demonstrated that Co/CeZr02 catalyst was more active in the POX process than a reference industrial catalyst.
