Comparing the Profit Margin of Textiles Woven on a Hand Loom and Automatic Loom in the Textile Industry: Case of Buldan City

The ever-changing senses of consumption and the fashion factor in the world have caused an ongoing increase in the demand for hand woven textiles in recent years. Therefore the prices of hand woven textiles, where the supply is limited, are on the rise. It is known that Buldan city, one of the centers of hand woven production in Anatolia, has significant commercial potential in this respect. The purpose of this study is to provide an insight into the industry by comparing the profit margin of products woven on hand looms and automatic looms in the textile industry in Buldan city and to raise awareness regarding the importance of production on hand looms. “Scarf”, which is the textile item most produced in Buldan, was selected for study. In the study the unit costs of scarves woven with insect silk, floss silk, cotton and linen yarn, which are widely used in production, on hand looms and automatic looms were calculated and profit margins obtained from average sales prices were compared. At the end of the study, it was seen that the profit margin of hand woven textiles was almost twice as high as those woven on automatic looms.

Ciągłe zmiany w zapotrzebowaniu tekstyliów i czynnik mody spowodowały ostatnio postępujący, wzrost zapotrzebowania na tkaniny tkane ręcznie. Wobec tego ceny tego typu tkanin , których podaż jest ograniczona , znacznie wzrosły. Miasto Buldan, jedno z centrów wytwarzania tkanin ręcznie, posiada duży potencjał handlowy w tej dziedzinie. Celem prowadzonych badań była analiza porównawcza granic zysku przy produkcji ręcznej i automatycznej a także przekonanie producentów o opłacalności produkcji ręcznej. Brano pod uwagę koszty jednostkowe produktu tkanego z jedwabiu, bawełny i lnu oraz koszty energii,pracy ludzkiej oraz możliwe do uzyskania ceny za produkt gotowy.

Motifs and Symmetry Characteristics of the Ornamentation on Traditional Greek Woven Textiles from the Area of the Aegean

This paper presents an analysis of woven ornamentation of traditional Greek textiles from the area of the Aegean. The aim of this research is to explore the relationship between woven ornamentation and the technology used for its construction. Ornament forming on woven structures is specific because of the influence and restrictions that weave technology imposes on the aesthetic result of the artifacts produced. In this study, a group of traditional hand–woven fabrics from the Aegean area was digitally recorded. The decoration and motifs of these textiles /were analysed using the international classification and notation system created by H. J. Woods and M. A. Hann, taking into account the limitations that exist in the case of woven ornaments. This methodology enables the classification of woven ornaments into categories, making possible the comparison of ornament ‘types’ with the weave techniques used. Results of the symmetry analysis of these textiles are presented in this paper and lead to some conclusions that show that technology plays a determinant role in the appearance of woven ornaments.

W pracy zaprezentowano analizę zdobnictwa tradycyjnych greckich tekstyliów z obszaru wybrzeża Morza Egejskiego. Celem badań było znalezienie związku pomiędzy zdobieniami a techniką użytą do ich wykonania. Tworzenie zdobień na strukturze tkaniny jest specyficznym procesem, ponieważ technologia tkania narzuca pewne ograniczenia, czym wpływa na ostateczną estetykę wyrobu. W pracy zapisano cyfrowo grupę ręcznie tkanych tradycyjnych tkanin z obszaru wybrzeża Morza Egejskiego. Analizowano zdobienia i motywy tych tekstyliów używając klasyfikacji i systemu zapisu stworzonego przez H.J. Woods’a i M.A. Hann’a, a także biorąc pod uwagę ograniczenia istniejące w kwestii zdobień tkanin. Taka metodologia umożliwia podział zdobień na kategorie, czyniąc możliwym porównanie typów zdobień z użytą do ich wytworzenia techniką. W artykule zaprezentowano wyniki analizy symetrii tekstyliów, które pokazują, że technika wytwarzania odgrywa zasadniczą rolę w wyglądzie zdobień.
