The first general synthesis of vinyl-thiiranes 7 and an effiecient preparation of conjugated dienes 8 and 9 is presented. Methodology described for the preparation of these compounds is based on the corresponding readily available thiophosphates 1 and selenophosphates 2.

Efficient new methodology of regio- and stereoselective synthesis of a variety of functionalized mono- and polycyclic compounds based on thio- and selenophosphates is reported. The representative examples of these compounds are: vinyl thiiranes, conjugated dienes, cycloadducts, _,_-unsaturated carbonyl compounds, allylic alcohols, _-hydroxy ketones and aromatic compounds.

A convenient synthesis of alpha-substituted vinylphosphonates based on the reaction of readily available S-(beta-oxoalkyl)dithiophosphates and Se-(beta-oxoalkyl)selenophosphates with sodium dialkyl phosphites is described.
