The presence of health - affirming everyday urban places is an invaluable asset for every neighborhood. The study presented encompassed the Post-Occupancy Evaluation of the therapeutic qualities of the urban tissue of certified econeighborhood in France. To perform this assessment the ready-to-use tool developed by the author, the universal pattern of design for health-affirming urban places was used. This study included the evaluation of the therapeutic qualities of Martin Luther public park located in the center of this neighborhood together with assessment of streets and paths leading to the park. The results were estimated as satisfactory. The architectural design of modern, human-oriented econeighborhood with centrally located public park lead to the creation of healthaffirming urban place.

W artykule przedstawiono wybrane zagadnienia związane z projektowaniem zrównoważonych kompleksów szkolnych w trosce o promocję zdrowia zarówno dzieci i młodzieży, jak i osób dorosłych. Przybliżono wyniki badań nad terapeutycznym wpływem kontaktu z naturą. Następnie omówiono trzy kompleksy edukacyjne jako przykłady dobrych praktyk – dwa z Francji i jeden z Polski. Wybrano obiekty, gdzie zastosowano nowatorskie rozwiązania w zakresie zagospodarowania terenu szkoły i zrównoważonych technologii budowlanych. Pierwszy obiekt to Le Groupe Scolaire des Sciences et de la Biodiversité Robert Doisneau z Francji, gdzie ogrody szkolne ulokowano na dachu i tarasach. Drugi to szkoła w Les Mureaux, gdzie stworzono pawilonowy kompleks szkolny, który stał się kulturalnym centrum dzielnicy. Trzeci to przykład gdańskiego kompleksu szkolnego o konstrukcji drewnianej.

This paper presents selected issues concerning sustainable schools design to promote health. The results of research on the therapeutic impact of contact with nature are discussed. Next, three educational facilities are presented as examples of good practices – two from France and one from Poland. Those schools were selected because of innovative architectural design and sustainable construction technologies. The first case is Groupe Scolaire des Sciences et de la Biodiversité Robert Doisneau in France, where the school gardens are located on the roof and terraces. The second case is the Pôle Molière school in Les Mureaux, which became the cultural center of the district. The third case is a wooden school in Gdańsk.

As cities and urban population continue to grow, causing serious threats to public health, the development of health-affirming urban landscapes becomes even more important topic than ever before. The purpose of this paper is to answer the question which qualities of urban landscape make it the health-affirming landscape. In the first part of the paper, a concept of health-affirming landscapes and a modern approach to sustainable city design are examined. In the second part, the qualities of health-affirming urban landscape according to theories and research are discussed. The tools, which might be applied to urban design to create health-affirming landscapes are reviewed. The conclusions concern the need and possibilities to create health-affirming landscapes. The need for further research on impact of such landscapes on health and well-being of city dwellers is indicated.

This paper discusses the close relationship between the concept of health-affirming everyday landscapes and the idea of sustainable city design. The French National program of eco-neighborhood certification ÉcoQuartier is described and the correlation between the concepts of health-affirming landscapes, sustainable cities, and eco-neighborhoods is explained using the example of a selected eco-neighborhood in France.

The aim of the paper is to present the selected urban spaces as examples of therapeutic and integrative landscapes both on the scale of individual and society, that may form inspiration for new approach to urban landscape. The use of set actions and mechanisms shown on a scale of the city, place and detail allows us to become aware of the direction that is desired in the shaping of the modern cities – construction of landscapes in which “the person is visible in”. Thanks to adoption of this direction in shaping of space we have the chance to create a city with main feature is the closeness, so needed by people.

Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie wybranych przestrzeni miejskich jako przykładów krajobrazów o funkcji terapeutycznej i integracyjnej dla jednostki i społeczeństwa, które mogą stanowić inspiracje do nowego spojrzenia na krajobraz miejski. Wykorzystanie wskazanych działań w skali miasta, miejsca i detalu pozwala uświadomić sobie pożądany dla kształtowania współczesnych miast kierunek – budowę krajobrazów, w których „widać człowieka”. Dzięki przyjęciu takiego kierunku kształtowania przestrzeni mamy szansę na kreację miasta bliskiego ludziom.
