The presence of surfactants changes the physical properties of solution and makes it impossible to get correct results in mercury determination by CVAAS. Solution of KMn04 was used in the wet digestion in open vessels to eliminate interference. Possible losses ofanalyte during digestion were checked. The average recoveries were 94 - 99% and the precision of the method, expressed as coefficient of variation was 4 - 6%. Results indicate that the potassium permanganate solution is an alternative to commercial antifoam agent and microwave and mineralization and for the elimination of interferences from the matrix textile.
